Exhaust X-Pipes For More Power

Although X-pipes are essential for race cars, adding this modification to a stock car can be a good idea for many reasons – increased power, fuel economy and less noise inside the vehicle. This type of aftermarket performance part is something you can either purchase or have custom-made for you by a good muffler shop. Installation is simple enough for the at-home pro, and the result will be well worth the effort.

The Evolution of the X-Pipe

To understand the importance of the X-pipe in relation to improved performance and power, you have to know about its roots. The X-pipe is really the offspring of the H-pipe design, which was first conceived in the 1960s by the major American car manufacturing companies at the time. Duel exhaust pipes for V-8-powered vehicles are very noisy, as there is no sound wave cancellation between the 2 separate four-cylinder engines and unconnected exhaust systems. Engineers were looking for a way to cut down on interior noise levels and improve the engine's power. They realized that running a balance tube between the two branches of exhaust pipe would work to broaden the torque curve (thus improving engine performance) and dissipate sound resonance in the exhaust system.

In the 1990s improved technological advancements made it possible to construct an exhaust pipe that, instead of connecting by means of a balance pipe at a severe 90-degree angle, could unify the two branches of pipe to create a flow of exhaust in one direction.

Now X-pipes are being manufactured for popular performance cars, usually off-road versions minus catalytic converters, but you can also find them in legal models fully equipped with proper emissions equipment. Performing an X-pipe mod is an option that you should consider.

Why X over H?

It has been proven time and again that the X-pipe design is more efficient than the H-pipe. Various tests have shown that for multiple cylinder engines the X-pipe outperforms H-pipe exhaust systems, especially as rpm increases, providing both better torque and power. Unified exhaust pipes work most efficiently with multiple cylinders because of the scavenging effect. With exhaust X-pipes the almost seamless connection between the two exhaust pipes allows sequential firing cylinders to salvage any spent exhaust gases from the combustion chamber more efficiently and creates more room in the cylinder for a fresh intake of undiluted fuel and air. When you have two exhaust pipes, as the velocity in one header tube increases, the pressure in the adjacent tube is lowered causing the exhaust to be sucked out of that cylinder. X-pipes are simply better at doing the job, especially at higher speeds.

Installing Exhaust X-Pipes

This is a simple mod that almost anyone can perform successfully. Most companies produce exhaust X-pipes that are simple bolt-ons that can be installed in less than an hour using the usual hand tools.

If you own a vehicle that doesn't have an X-pipe available, it is possible to have a custom X-pipe assembled for you. A muffler shop can construct it by taking an X-pipe union and bending up some exhaust tubing until it fits. If you decide to make your own exhaust X-pipe from scratch, so-to-speak, remember to place the X-pipe union as close to the rear of the vehicle as you can to increase the power.

A Brief How-To

To install exhaust X-pipes, first begin by positioning the passenger-side header pipe in place and tightening it before moving on to the next step. Make sure it is secure. Now, fit in the actual X-pipe along with the driver's side header pipe. Remember that the long leg of the X must go toward the front driver's side of the car. Now it's time to fit the pipes of the X into position and loosely attach them to the after-cat system. You might have to adjust how the after-cat is hanging for proper tailpipe positioning and tuck up the X-pipe square. On some vehicles the tranny crossmember has an exhaust hangar - if this is the case you can tack the hardware onto the pipes. Tighten the bolts and tack-weld the junctions at the X. Check everything one more time before removing the X-pipe and welding the full length of the junctions. The assembled unit now needs to be bolted back into position - simple as that.

All in all, with exhaust X-pipes torque and power will increase resulting in fast acceleration, improved fuel economy and a nice quiet ride. The difference is noticeable with the installation of X-pipes on a V-8 engine vehicle - interior noise is reduced considerably because you don't hear the firing impulses of 2 four-cylinder engines, but instead hear the noise of all 8 cylinders blasting out of both pipes at once.

Examining the dynamometer data

After you have performed your desired dynamometer tests, you need to take a look at the information you received. If you have a manual recording system you should calculate and transform the torque and rpm readings into horsepower numbers. If you've got a manual electronic data collection the next step will be to print out the data.

On personal computer equipped dynamometers you should name the new data file and enter all the relevant data about the test run you have ended.

There are software packages for your dynamometers that grant you the possibility of entering virtually any parameter you want in certain windows. This is very handy, as you can store important information in a structured data base, making it more accessible. If you don’t own a system equipped with sensors that capture the weather conditions you should write them down as soon as you finish the dynamometer tests.

It is very important to choose an appropriate output report format for reviewing the dynamometer’s data. When you examine the data received from you dyno, you should discard any information gathered during periods of rapid rpm change. You should instead concentrate on the ranges where the engine maintains a stable number of rotations for at least a few consecutive seconds.

Another important step is to average the data received from the dynamometer. Even numbers with some inertial errors can still produce valuable information after they have been averaged.

If you observe any unusual numbers in your results, you have probably made some mistakes when you chose the tachometer pulse settings. Or, if horsepower is a lot smaller than you expected it to be, you should check if the throttle was wide open during the test. You should also remember about the problem of exhaust being reabsorbed into the intake system. Perform another pull, following the same procedures as the first dynamometer test, making sure you everything is checked and working properly. Remember to warm up the engine before you begin the test. On the second run, you shouldn’t make any significant parameter changes, and concentrate on repeatability instead. In fact, you are really testing the repeatability of your actions and the stability of your engine, since the dynamometer did not change between runs.

Whenever possible, when chasing small improvements, you should retest the engine in its baseline state. This additional real-time check will spare you a great deal of time in the more important and longer runs.

Everyone Should Have A Car Alarm

In today's world, not everyone can be trusted. Hardly a day goes by when we do not hear terrible stories of all kinds of crimes that are happening to innocent and well meaning people. There are countless ways to help prevent these crimes happening you, more than we can share here, but one of the best and easiest ways that you can prevent theft happening to you is by getting a car alarm. Many cars already come with a car alarm, but there are an equal number of cars that a car alarm must be purchased separately for the car. My point is that any car owner that truly values their car should have a car alarm, no questions asked. There is no reason why you should not do all you can to protect your vehicle if it is truly that valuable to you.

A car alarm is a great thing. It is great because a potential thief cannot possibly know that you have a car alarm until they do something to set it off. This is why the car alarm can be so effective. Especially if you are like me, then sometimes you leave valuable things in your locked car without even thinking about the possibility of danger. I often wonder how tempting my valuable possessions are to people who are looking for something to steal.

The benefit of a car alarm is that it is loud and embarrassing enough that it usually makes most potential criminals flee the scene of a car before they steal something. Because it is quite obvious to anyone close by that a car alarm has gone off, few people have the guts to continue in the process of stealing something valuable from a car or stealing the car itself with a loud car alarm going off for all to hear

So my simple advice is this. Find out if your car comes with a car alarm built in it. If it does, take some time to learn about your car alarm. Learn about when it goes on and about how you can control it. There is nothing worse than having a car alarm for protection that you do not use. If you find that your car does not come with a car alarm, then your next step is simple: get a car alarm. Talk with your car dealer about the possibilities and check out the kind of car alarm that is best for your situation and your budget. The important thing is simply to be protected, so do whatever it takes to protect yourself and your valuables.

Every Man Needs A Truck

There are a few things in life that I'm quite sure of. I guess I have learned along the way and become convinced about more things as I've gotten older. For example, I am convinced that work is a normal and important part of life. Twenty years ago I thought I could somehow be the first person to make it through life without working. I've also realized that relationships are harder than anything else in life, but they are also the most valuable. My early years were about anything but relationships. Being married for the past fifteen years has only increased my learning curve about the things I'm sure of. I have always thought that men were different than women, but it took getting married for me to really be sure that they are. I've also become quite sure that every man needs a truck.

I remember hearing things growing up about how every man needs a truck to own and drive, but I never really believed it was true. I believed that men said they needed a truck just so that they would have an excuse to actually buy a truck and drive one. I've been around a lot of men in the past couple of decades and I'm quite sure that there is something actually tied between being a man and having a truck.

A truck has become the symbol of masculinity to me, for better or for worse. I feel a little weird anytime I see a woman driving a truck around town. I immediately feel like she must just be borrowing her husband's truck for the day, but then I immediately wonder why she would want to do that. I, for example, have never had the desire to own a truck or even to drive a truck. My husband has owned a truck since before we were married and so I have had my fair share of time in a truck and I still don't see the appeal. I simply see that my husband comes alive when he gets in his truck, cleans his truck, or starts talking about his truck with anyone who will listen. His truck has truly become his favorite posession and his pride and joy.

So women, let the men in your life get a truck. It will help them feel like a man. And men, if you've always been longing for a truck but haven't had the guts to make the purchase, let today be the day. Any size and kind of truck will do, just get one and start enjoying the fact that every man needs a truck.

Ethanol Fuels Becoming More Accessible to Drivers

We all want to help save the environment, but for some of us it's easier said than done. Hybrids are still pricey, public transportation isn't always reliable and giving up our cars isn't necessarily an option.

Luckily there's an answer: ethanol.

Classified as an alternative fuel by the U.S. Department of Energy, the latest blend of ethanol fuel, or E85, is made up of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent unleaded gasoline. Ethanol contains oxygen, which results in fuel combusting completely and reducing emissions. Made from foodstuffs such as corn, wheat, barley and potatoes, ethanol is biodegradable. Production of ethanol actually requires less energy than diesel and gasoline.

The U.S. has already reduced its fuel consumption considerably, according to Bob Dinneen, president of the Renewable Fuels Association. But using the new ethanol fuel blends, such as E85, could help even more.

A small, publicly traded company with headquarters in Virginia, Xcelplus International has introduced new technology that will enable motorists to use the lower-priced E85 fuels that are now available.

The company's new kit can turn almost any car into a flexible fuel vehicle. The kit consists of a coating agent to protect the engine from the acids associated with E85 and a "FlexteK" adapter that allows the vehicle owner to choose the type of fuel to use in the car. The adapter can easily be removed and reinstalled in another vehicle if necessary.

Flexible fuel vehicles can operate on regular unleaded gasoline or an ethanol blend. Major manufacturers including Ford, General Motors, Isuzu and Mercedes have models that are flexible fuel vehicles, and the number is increasing every year.

Ethanol As An Alternative

Ethanol fuel is changing our lives and changing the economy in ways no one anticipated before, with energy costs rising every day, there has been an increased interest in ethanol fuel. Ethanol is a variety of alcohol that can be produced in a natural fashion, similar to the way in which alcoholic beverages are produced. Ethanol can be used by itself in some specially designed vehicles, but it can also be used as a fuel additive, stretching traditional fuels in times of economic or environmental hardship. Ethanol is used today by more people ever before, simply because of the cheap alternative to the soaring gas prices.

Using ethanol fuel as an alternative to gas does require motorists to get a special ethanol kit and install it in their cars, but since gas prices have been unstable in the last years many people feel that making that kind of investment will prove financially profitable in the future.

Ethanol fuel that is derived from crops has advantages over traditional fossil fuels. The ethanol fuel is obtained from the sugars and starches in crops like corn and grains. It also burns cleaner than petroleum based fuels due to its chemical composition, alleviating some of the strain placed on the environment by exhaust emissions. The increased consumption of corn for ethanol use has already started to affect the corn farms projections of yearly crops.

Blended ethanol fuel has proven to be an effective source of energy for several parts of the country, as well as other parts of the globe. E10 is a typical mixture. It is common in the Midwestern United States. Many other countries around the world start to consider using ethanol instead of regular fuel, Denmark for example, has also begun using this type of ethanol fuel. It appears to be doing well, though its use is not as extensive as many of its proponents had hoped it would be. There is still a long way for ethanol to become a natural option for fuel, the United States had used ethanol fuel for less than one percent of its gasoline needs in the year 2002.

The other big issue surrounding ethanol is the environmental issue, it is still not absolutely clear that ethanol is in fact environment friendly, and whether the environmental aspects of ethanol fuel are as good as they have been previously described by the supporters of ethanol fuel use. The growing concern is that while the use of ethanol by itself may be good for the environment, the resources and work done to provide the production of the ethanol could be potentially dangerous for the forests, rainforests and areas where the corn and other ethanol producing resources are being grown. While it is true that the fuel can be made from renewable resources there is evidence that some rainforests are actually being cleared to make space for crops that are used in the production of ethanol. As the controversy regarding the production of ethanol and its dangers, it is very clear that this alternative source of energy is becoming more and more popular.

Ethanol and E85 - Fuels Of The Future?

Copyright 2006 Donovan Baldwin

Pure ethanol or E100 is also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol. It is made when corn, grain, or other agricultural products are fermented, distilled, and denatured and because of this, it is a continually renewable resource, a true benefit in the world of alternative fuels. Another benefit is the fact that, unlike many other, mainly petroleum based, fuels, it contributes nothing to the build-up of greenhouse gases. Because of its renewable nature, it is possible to extensively reduce a nation's dependence on foreign oil products.

Pure ethanol is never used as an alternative fuel, but ethanol blends are. For example, E10 is a fuel made of 10 percent ethanol and blended with 90 percent gasoline. The most common blend is E85, a fuel made of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. E85 is officially classified by the U.S. Department of Energy as an alternative energy fuel. It could be used in most cars today that are run on gasoline with some modification, and new, flexible fuel vehicles, are being developed that could use E85. Recently, lobbyists have been pushing for its use in FFVs or flexible fuel vehicles, alternative vehicles that have a lesser impact on the environment than today's gas guzzling cars.

E85 Properties

Why is E85 gaining in popularity to the point that lines of vehicles are being developed that will run on it alone? Compare it to the properties of gasoline, and see for yourself:

* 96 octane to 86-94 octane in gasoline

* 12,500 lower heating value to 18,000-19,000 lower heating value of gasoline

* 1.4 gallons of E85 is equal to 1 gallon gasoline

* Per gallon, E85 gets 72% of the miles that gasoline gets

* Holding tank is 1.4 times larger than a gasoline holding tank

* In cold weather, E85 starts the car as well as gasoline

* Vehicle power is increased 3-5% with E85

Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV)

A flexible fuel vehicle is a car that runs on any ethanol blend, E85 or less, and can also run on regular unleaded gas. They have been in production for almost a decade and continue to be built by some major car manufacturers including Ford, GM, Mercury, Isuzu, and more. Over 2 million of today’s vehicles are flexible fuel vehicles, which can run on ethanol, gasoline, or a mixture of the two. You may own one of these FFV's without even being aware of it. Some of the benefits of flexible fuel vehicles include:

* Emissions that create smog are reduced 25 percent

* Cost effectiveness is equal to that of cars run on gasoline

* Similar warranties and original equipment are manufactured as they are for gasoline run vehicles

* Emissions that create greenhouse gases are reduced 35 to 40 percent

* Vehicle horsepower increased up to 5 percent

* Fuel is renewable

* New vehicles can be ordered with a flexible fuel engine option

* More and more E85 pumps are springing up all over the country

* Gasoline can be mixed with any amount of E85 if E85 is not available

Hybrid Vehicles And Ethanol

Most cars, including hybrid cars have no problems with a 10 percent ethanol blend. However, at this time, the combination of E85 and the hybrid car is only slowly making its way from the drawing board to the highway. Some instances have occurred where the two have been combined, but these are primarily in fleet situations and concept cars so far. However, it shouldn't be too long before you can buy a hybrid car that will run on E85.

Drawbacks of E85

There are a few disadvantages to E85 at this point in the game, though they hardly outweigh the benefits. Some of these include:

* The cost of E85 is formidable due to the cost of the fermentation process but research has already begun to develop a new and cheaper fermentation process that utilizes lower-grade feed stocks.

* Ethanol is quite a bit more corrosive than gasoline, which could lead to engine problems.

* Issues of things like vapor lock, flame visibility, and cold starts have experts concerned.

* The miles per gallon of E85 is less efficient than the miles per gallons of gasoline.

* It's not easy to find E85 gasoline tanks because distribution is difficult.

One present disadvantage that DOES outweigh the ecological value for the consumer is the scarcity of locations selling E85. This will probably continue to change over time however. For those in the military, there are some military bases where E85 can be found

Despite the limitations, ethanol based alternative fuels like E85 are an incredible improvement over the use of gasoline. Some car manufacturers are offering to upgrade regular engines to E85 capability for no cost, and the fact that flexible fuel vehicles are not reliant upon E85 but can use gasoline in any combination with the ethanol blend makes it a simple choice. Scientists and researchers are working on ways to fix the remaining issues. This new technology is more than a trend but the direction in which the future is taking drivers.

You can learn more about alternative fuels and flexible fuel vehicles, including what vehicles are flexible fuel vehicles, and where to find E85, at the United States Government's Alternative Fuel Data Center at http://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/infrastructure/fuel_inf.html .

Equipment 101: Attachments And Tractors, Finding The Right Match

Call it what you will: a mower, mover, cultivator or grader. The list of names can go on and on, but in reality, this machine is your tractor, and, depending on the attachments you use, it can transform into almost any kind of heavy-duty outdoor tool you want. The key is finding the right attachments.

"Attachments are the arms and legs that essentially give versatility and functionality to your tractor. When you match the right tractor with the right attachments, you have an invaluable multipurpose tool that makes outdoor chores go faster, and better yet, more enjoyable," explains Dan Paschke, from John Deere Commercial and Consumer Equipment Division. To help people match attachments with needs, Paschke provides answers to some frequently asked questions:

Q: With so many attachments available, how do I decide what I really need?

A: Your dealer can be an excellent resource. Some factors to consider are:

• Tasks: What do you want to do with your tractor?

• Speed: How fast do you want to operate?

• Space: Consider storage space and if you will be working around any obstacles.

Q: How does my choice of tractor factor into my choice of attachments?

A: The tractor is the key factor in ensuring that attachments operate properly. Some ways to determine if your tractor is capable of operating attachments are:

• PTO, or Power Take Off horsepower-rather than engine horsepower-is a good gauge of a tractor's true capabilities to handle attachments.

• If you are working with attachments or implements that require frequent changes in direction or speed, you may want to consider a tractor that has a more user-friendly transmission, such as a hydrostatic or power reverser.

• The higher the GPM (gallons per minute), the better the hydraulic power. A tandem hydraulic pump provides power to both the steering and implements without robbing power from the other.

Q: Isn't it cumbersome to remove and replace attachments from the tractor all of the time?

A: Not always. For instance, John Deere offers the iMatch Quick Hitch on its tractors. This innovative and affordable feature allows operators to easily connect attachments to their tractor without leaving the operator seat. Simply back up your tractor and slide on the PTO shaft.

Q: What challenges come with buying attachments that are made by a different manufacturer than my tractor?

A: John Deere and Frontier attachments are designed to be fully integrated with John Deere tractors, thus ensuring optimum performance from that attachment. And for customers owning a John Deere tractor with iMatch, nearly all of these implements and attachments are iMatch compatible. Off-brand implements and attachments can work as well, but there are some potential pitfalls. First, you frequently get what you pay for. Second, warranties, guarantees and dealer support may not be what you would expect. Finally, you may lose a lot of ease of use.

Q: Are there any safety issues to be aware of when working with attachments?

A: A rule of thumb for safely operating attachments is to understand and follow counterbalance guidelines. Attachments have different weights and can change the center of gravity, causing a potential tipping hazard. Your dealer should walk you through how to counterbalance your tractor for the best and safest operating practices.

Q: Where is the best place to look for attachments?

A: An area dealer is a great place to start because they have the knowledge, resources and expertise at their fingertips to give you the exact requirements to make sure your attachments and machine are used properly and effectively.

Environmentally Sound Automotive Air Filters

When I explain to someone that there are several lines of vehicle air filters available that are environmentally sound I usually receive a quizzical look back from that person. For some motorists the idea of environmentally compatible automotive parts is a foreign concept to them. Yet, when you think about it many parts that come standard on just about any vehicle qualifies for that title. A catalytic converter is one part that everyone knows about, even if they don't understand exactly how one works. So, exactly what is an environmentally sound air filter? Let’s take a closer look for all the details.

As you probably know the air filter that comes with your car is made predominately of paper with plastic molding holding the filter together. If you change the air filter at recommended intervals – once a year is common – you can easily go through 3, 5, or even 10 or more air filters depending on how long you keep your car as well as how many miles you put on your car. All of these air filters end up in your trash and then go straight to the dump. The paper in the filter will probably disintegrate quickly, but the plastic sits in place perhaps for thousands of years.

If this sort of thing disturbs you then take heart. Thanks to race car technology, manufacturers have developed reusable air filters for many production vehicles. If you purchase one for your vehicle it likely will be the last one you ever need. How is that? Because a reusable air filter can be cleaned and put back in your car over and over again. In fact, quality reusable air filters are designed to outlast your car with many guaranteed to last 500,000 miles or more, even up to one million miles!

A reusable air filter costs more, with prices running approximately 2-4 times the price of a standard air filter. If you keep your car for any length of time you will get that money back, but if do not you are still helping to show environmental responsibility by keeping our landfills free of unnecessary throw away parts.

Two additional benefits of a reusable air filter -- the type that K&N and other top manufacturers produce -- is that it will give your vehicle a boost in horsepower as your engine will run more efficiently. Furthermore, a more efficient engine burns less fuel so your fuel economy goes up too.

So, what is there not to like about a reusable air filter? In reality, not much! By installing a reusable [or performance] air filter you help the environment, realize a noticeable gain in horsepower, and you burn less fuel. A true win-win-win proposition, don’t you agree?

Electric Scooters (Mobility Scooters)

Electric Scooters or Mobility Scooters are specially designed for people who have low mobility. An electric scooter is basically a battery-operated vehicle with the capacity of only one person. These scooters are mainly used by those people who feel difficulty in standing or walking for long periods of time. The Electric Scooters or Mobility Scooters are either designed for indoor use, outdoor use and both indoor and outdoor use. The main difference between an Electric Scooter and a motorized wheelchair is that the later is generally intended for indoor use and also costs more.

The Mobility scooters generally come in a wide range of styles which are capable of accommodating different types of user needs. The Electric Scooters can have three wheels or maybe four. Electirc RC Cars for Fun and Excitement

Electric RC cars and trucks are generally considered best for beginners, since even if you choose to build your own car, they tend to be simpler and easier than nitro cars. They’re also a great deal quieter and run much cleaner, meaning you’re less restricted by where you can run them. In terms of speed and power, they do have a great deal of pickup, though not as much as the nitro cars.

Electric RC cars use rechargeable battery packs to power their motor and steering, which are usually recharged from a 12-volt car battery or wall socket. Batteries run for about 5-10 minutes, depending on the type of engine your car has, and charging the battery usually takes 15-30 minutes. Because of this, it is strongly recommended you have at least two battery packs, to allow for quick replacement of the battery. This means your car can keep running while the other battery is recharging, giving the car more overall running time.

At first glance, getting started with an electric RC car can be much less expensive than a nitro vehicle. But there are other costs to consider as well, such as additional battery packs, a battery charger and other accessories that will add to the cost, making it closer to the price of a nitro car in the long run. Of course, this cost also depends on what kind of car you end up purchasing and what kind of battery pack it requires, as well as how often you run the car and the quality of the batteries you get. Though the initial outlay of cash can be steep, but you’ll want to get quality battery packs and a good charger to save replacing cheaper batteries.

The main reason electric RC’s are said to be easier than nitro is in the amount of maintenance and tuning their engines require. Though the care, maintenance and cost of battery packs is steep, it is still less trouble for the new driver than the air filters, tuning, fueling and various other engine parts that require attention on a nitro car. Instead, careful conditioning and proper storage of your battery packs will keep your electric RC running smoothly for years. Always consult your manufacturer’s instructions to make sure you’re getting the right battery packs for your car, and that you’re caring for them properly.

Easier and cleaner, electric RC cars and trucks offer the genuine racing experience to the beginner on an easy learning curve. Proper conditioning and maintenance of the car and its battery packs are still easier than the many parts and problems often associated with nitro RC’s. If you’re a beginner, or if you just want to get to the races, an electric RC can offer you the speed and fun you’re after for less work.

Also keep in mind that if you think you’d prefer an electric RC, but still want the experience of building your own car, that you can also purchase electric kits. These include complete instructions to build your own car from scratch, and because their systems are less complex than the nitro cars, they are a little easier to build yourself.

Electric RC Car Motors

In order to prevent unnecessary wear and tear on your electric motor, it is important to always break in your motor, before you drive it for the first time, and every time after you change its brushes. One easy method is to run the vehicle with the wheels off of the ground at about 1/4 power for about 5 minutes. This will slowly get the brushes fully seated to the commutator without causing wear and tear on the engine, and will allow your motor to run at its full potential.

Your electric car will come with instructions on how to change the brushes on the motor, as well guidelines for how often. Remember, if you change the brushes on your motor, be sure to break it in again. How often you replace the brushes—and the motor, for that matter—depends on where and how much you’re running or racing your car. Generally, a motor should be replaced after it has gone through five or more pairs of brushes, but it will always depend on the individual car, its motor and how well they’re running.

Eight Tips For The Road Ahead

Whether you're traveling alone, with a buddy or with your spouse and a car full of kids, there are few things more "American" than the long-distance road trip. Countless vacation travelers will drive the highways looking for fun and making memories with every mile.

If traveling down the "holiday road" is in your plans, take the time to prepare for your trip. You'll have a more enjoyable vacation if you plan carefully. Here are a few driving tips courtesy of Drive Insurance from Progressive.

1) Maintain your car. Make sure your vehicle is up to date on its maintenance schedule, and be sure to check the battery and tires.

2) Plan your trip and know where you're going. Call ahead for proper and safe directions to get you to your destination safely and have maps of the area on hand to help you navigate once you are off the main road. You're more likely to make good decisions, even in dangerous situations, if you're clearheaded and know where you're going.

3) Be alert. Seems obvious, but driver inattention is surely the cause of a lot of accidents. If you stay focused behind the wheel and plan carefully, you will have a wonderful summer road trip.

4) Take precaution with a cell phone. Cell phones can be a lifesaver when you need immediate access to emergency services after an accident. Keep your phone within easy reach and get to know its features. However, use it prudently. Reports suggest that driving while talking on the phone increases accident rates.

5) Wear your seat belt. Whether or not it's required by law in the state through which you're driving, always wear your seat belt as a safety precaution.

6) Protect your car against theft. Help deter criminals from taking your car with steering wheel locks, switches that disable fuel or ignition systems, and electronic tracking devices.

7) If you're in an accident. Taking immediate steps if you've been in an accident can protect your family and your car from further damage. Stop immediately and make sure your car is not blocking traffic. Turn off your car to keep it from overheating or catching fire. Warn oncoming cars using road flares or orange triangle reflectors. After you have protected yourself and your family, call your insurance company immediately.

8) Make sure your auto insurance is up to date. Before you even leave the driveway, you want to be sure you're protected when you're on the road and far from home. An independent insurance agent or broker can provide the personal service and advice you need to travel in confidence. To find an agent or broker, go to driveinsurance.com.

To be safe, be smart on your next long-distance road trip.

E-Banks that Accept US Players

Recently, the US Federal government banned online casinos from operating in America by making it illegal to transfer money to them through any US bank or payment system. As a result of this law, most of the popular online casino networks such as Party Gaming and PlayTech left the United States. Overnight, online casino players found themselves being chased by the Federal government.

But, after a fortnight, the online casino industry came up with a solution and new online casinos started taking root. These began to operate under a different business umbrella, and by doing that, rendered the transfer of money to and from them legal. A major part of this was enlisting electronic banking systems that would accept this new clarification and start doing business with me. Listed in this article are the electronic banking systems that accept players from the United States that wish to play in online casinos.

The Payment Systems You Can Use:
1, 2) MasterCard and Visa:
The most popular credit cards in the world, you can use these for depositing money into your casino account. But, please note that the casinos do not deposit your winning through your credit card. They use one of the other electronic payment systems. This is also the biggest reason why you should refrain from using your personal credit cards today for gambling.

3, 4) Visa Delta, Visa Electron:
These are debit cards that one can use to deposit cash into their casino account. By debit card, it means that the money you pay through the card, is immediately withdrawn from your bank account. This is a comfortable option, but here too, you cannot receive money into it.

5) Neteller:
Based in the UK and traded on the London AIM Stock Exchange, this e-bank company is one of the major independent electronic banking entities in the world, and it allows players to transfer money to and from an online casino.

6) Neteller Instacash
This is Neteller's version of the Debit Card, and, in fact, it is just like any other debit card with one difference. To use, InstaCash, you have to pay a small amount. But, most casinos will offer to pay this for you, so read their regulations.

7) EcoCard
Based in the European Union, EcoCard offers a wider range of electronic banking solutions than the other e-banks. Other than the regular card and debit system, you can decide beforehand how to create a flexible financial account. Because they use a wide network of banks in Europe, transactions made through EcoCard are quick and efficient.

8) FirePay
This e-banking system is solely web-based and carries out its transactions just like a debit card. You place cash into your FirePay account, and then, you can use that money to pay or deposit into your casino account. While it will not cost you a dime to open an account, you will be charged a minimal amount each time you transfer money from your bank account to FirePay.

9) Moneybookers
All you need to open an account is an email address! This e-banking system uses transactions from your credit or debit card or your bank account to whichever company you wish to move your money to. Regulated in the UK and run by Gatcombe Park Ventures Limited, this is one of the relatively new e-finance companies that allow transferring money to online casinos.

10) eWalletXpress:
Owned and run by Navaho Networks Inc, eWalletXpress is a new electronic payment system that has been created to answer the need for US players to transfer funds to online casinos.

11) 900Pay:
This is a completely different e-banking system. Instead of charging your bank account or your credit card, 900Pay charges your telephone bill for all your financial transactions. This is one of the fastest methods of electronic payment because you do not have to go through a long and detailed sign up process. And, if you were wondering, this does work to fund your casino account.

Easy Ways to Save on Car Expenses

For some drivers, their cars have become money pits. Higher fuel prices have been the monkey wrench that has spoiled many a motorists driving experience. No longer can any of us count on cheap fuel, high gasoline prices are here to stay. However, you can save money on your overall car expenses and restore your driving pleasure quickly. Here are some tips to guide you along the way:

Regular Gas v. Premium Gas -- Very few vehicles built today require premium gasoline. Thanks to knock sensors, which adjust the mixture of air and fuel to your engine, many cars can run on “87” octane fuel v. “91” octane fuel. By selecting the cheaper priced grade of fuel, you can save a nice amount of money over one year’s time.

Wash it Yourself. No one does a better job of washing and waxing your car then you do. Avoid those all too frequent trips to the car wash and save some money today. Of course, if you live in a more northerly climate where snow and road salt usage is pervasive, going to a car wash is a must in order to protect your vehicle’s body. Buy a coupon book to save on multiple washes.

What’s in Your Wallet? If you aren’t already using a rewards credit card for your gasoline purchases, you should be. Some cards are designed to give you an instant price reduction at the pump. Shop around for the card that is right for you.

Check Your Tires. Under inflated tires can reduce gasoline mileage by as much as 10%. In addition, under inflated tires will wear out faster too.
Review Your Insurance Policy. You may be paying for too much insurance on your car especially if it is worth less than $3000 and you still have collision coverage. Drop the collision coverage and bank the savings toward a down payment on your next car. Make certain that all of your other personal information is accurate too as an incorrectly listed zip code can impact your rates.

Change Your Oil. Granted, not too many people change their car’s oil anymore. With ten minute oil change shops so widespread, the convenience factor is a big consideration. Still, if you have someone else changing your oil, you do not need to change it every 3000 miles unless you subject your car to severe driving. Check your manufacturer’s recommendations and change it according to their specifications, not Jiffy Lube’s.

Do the Work Yourself. Some maintenance you can do yourself thereby avoiding having to pay high labor charges and too much for your parts. Air filters, oil filters, belts, batteries, and many other smaller parts can be changed by most motorists. Shop online through a discount wholesaler and you can save even more money on premium automotive parts.

Gas prices are likely to remain high, so saving money elsewhere becomes even more important. A wise consumer shops around for the best deals and there are plenty of them out there. In the face of a fuel crisis, you may have to curtail some of your driving or at least change your driving habits, however the “Great American Past Time” is alive and well and cruising down a freeway near you. Safe driving!

Easy Steps To Save Money At The Gas Pump

Gas prices are hitting disgustingly high since the hurricanes and war started, and most of us can't afford it. This article will help you decrease your visits to the pump and at the same time help the environment. Three basic approaches that you can take are working with the car you have, buying a different vehicle and using somebody else's vehicle. Here are a few tips:

• Use a sunshade. A cooler car needs less air conditioning.
• Park in the shade when it's warm.
• Clear your car of junk. Extra weight uses extra gas.
• Don't use premium fuels unless your car really requires them.
• Don't top off your tank. The excess is lost anyways.
• In winter, you should use a block heater to pre-warm your engine.
• Try to avoid rush hour.
• Get an update before you leave to avoid sitting in traffic:
• Don't pump the gas pedal before starting your car.
• Make sure that your parking brake is completely released.
• Don't floor it,….ever
• Brake slowly wherever possible.
• Don't ride the brake.
• Keep your tires properly inflated. Check them every 2 weeks.

When it comes to regular maintenance of your car that can save you a lot of money at the gas pumps too. Following the recommended maintenance schedule for your car will save you money. If you don’t have a manual, contact your local car dealer to get one. Let’s see these tips now.

• Rotate your tires on a regular basis
• Replace worn tires.
• Get regular tune-ups.
• Get regular oil changes according to your owner's manual.
• Check your air and fuel filters as well.
• Make sure your gas cap fits tightly.
• Keep your transmission fluid at the proper level.
• See a mechanic if you see that smoke is coming from your tailpipe.
• Keep all fluids topped up
• Ensure that your cooling system thermostat is working properly.
• Fix your transmission immediately
• get emissions tests once a year
• make sure that your exhaust system is clean and working properly
• keep your muffler up to par

All of the tips mentioned above will really save money. As you can see saving money on gas is not as hard as you may think it is. With the constantly rising price at the pump, it’s important to save every drop of gas that you can.

Easy Games to Play for Fun

Get acquainted with a practical guide on the easiest games that you can play online. And once you read this article, you will find that you have at least stopped losing all your money. If you follow the advice well and to the dot, you will also learn how to start winning cash from other players or by beating the casino. Sounds interesting? It is.

Note that the games you must look out for are those where the house edge is very low. If these are hard to find at the casino you have entered, look for those games that depend more on skill than on luck. Some of these include blackjack and poker. The games to avoid because they depend solely on luck are any of the slot machine games such as Caribbean Stud or the regular or progressive slot jackpots. These rely only on luck and the house edge there is against you.

What is a House Edge?
Since the casinos and betting establishments are in it for making money, they have created an artificial method to gain leverage over the players. This is what they have termed house edge. What it means is that over and above what you win, the casinos deduct a certain amount for themselves. It is something like insurance but only for them and not for you. But the casinos do not actually do this. Instead, they have inserted these odds into the game winnings so that you do not notice it. When you win, you are paid according to the newly calculated odds and you are no wiser.

For instance, if you walk over to a casino and place a bet of ten dollars on a roulette table. (For arguments sake, let us also suppose it was an American roulette table.) If you win, you should be given three hundred and seventy dollars because the true odds is thirty-seven to one. Instead, you will only get three hundred and fifty dollars according to the odds of thirty-five to one. This is what I was referring to in the previous paragraph. What has happened is that you have lost twenty dollars to the casino as part of the house edge.

Playing Poker:
Pick and play this exceptional game because ,here, you are not competing against the house at all. It is other players like you who you are up against. Do battle against them and defeat them for cash. No house edge comes in the way here, but you do pay a small part of the money you win to the casino as a commission. This winning commission is called rake, and its so minute that you do not feel it pinch your pocket.

In addition, this is one of the best games to play if you are good at it and if you have razor-sharp skills. You will be able to mint money like crazy if you can read other expressions and count the cards well. You can also pick from a variety of game variations such as Red Dog Poker and Texas Holdem.

Playing Blackjack:
This is one of those games that the casino does not like you playing. If it was up to the betting establishments, they would remove these tables altogether. Why? Because the edge for them is only a half percent! Thus, is you play well by remembering that you have to beat the dealer and not reach 21, you stand a big chance of accumulating a large sum. I also suggest you brush up on your mathematical skills.

If you wish, learn how to count cards, but be careful. Because card counting works, casinos have banned it. All you have to do is count the colored cards (the cards that are ten and above). Then, it will be easier to decide which bet to make and which not to make. Practice again and again at home because you not only have to master this skill but you also have to learn to do it silently so that the casinos do not catch on.

Video Poker:
This is a game very much like one of the many regular and progressive slot machines games you will run into at a casino, but it is different. Unlike slots, skill plays a big part in the results, and thus you have a bigger chance of winning than at one of the slot machines.

But, before you begin, glance at the payment structure pasted on the machine. You should make your gaming decisions based on the house odds and payment structures of the machine.

DWI, DUI, And BAC: Three Deadly Acronyms

DWI - Driving While Intoxicated.
DUI - Driving Under the Influence (of alcohol or drugs).
BAC - Blood Alcohol Concentration (or Content).

These three acronyms form a deadly combination. The main links between the three are alcohol and driving. It is well documented that drinking alcohol impairs judgment, slows reaction time, and decreases coordination. When a person is DWI or DUI, he or she is piloting a one-ton time bomb with little control over it. Is it speeding towards you?

These three acronyms have legal ramifications too. DUI and DWI are criminal offenses. To determine if a DWI or DUI offense has been committed, it is necessary to measure how much alcohol was consumed by the suspect driver (the BAC).

In the field, police officers utilize tests to determine the amount of a driver's impairment due to alcohol. Such tests include, but are not limited to, breath alcohol tests and field sobriety tests. The breath test is further discussed in this article.

A person's reaction to alcohol varies widely. Some factors that affect alcohol impairment include gender, body weight, time of last meal, time of day, alcohol tolerance, medications, genetics, rate of alcohol consumption, and many more.

A police officer stopping a suspected drunk driver has visual, olfactory (smell), and breath tests to judge a person's impairment from alcohol. The officer must make some kind of quantitative determination of the amount of alcohol impairment at the time of the stop. All the factors mentioned above do not matter to the officer. All he or she wants to do is to create a "snapshot" of the degree of impairment.

Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is a measure of the amount of alcohol in the blood, expressed as a percentage by volume. This can be measured precisely by taking a sample of the driver's blood for analysis. In the U.S., a BAC level of 0.08% (commonly written as .08) or more is considered illegal. However, the officer on patrol certainly doesn't have a medical lab in the car, and must rely on a breath testing device.

The brand name Breathalyzer is often used generically to describe devices that measure blood alcohol concentration. This type of breath analyzer does not actually measure the concentration of alcohol in the blood. Instead, the reading on the breath analyzer is only an estimate of the alcohol in the blood.

Correlations between the amount of alcohol in the blood and the resulting amount of alcohol in the breath have been made. The tests show the ratio to be approximately 2100 (in the blood) to about 1 (in the breath), or 2100:1. Based on factors listed above, a person's blood:breath alcohol ratio can vary from 1700:1 to 2400:1.

In simpler terms, if an average person has 2100 drops of alcohol in the blood, the breath tester will show a reading of 1 drop. Doctors have measured the blood and breath alcohol contents of test subjects simultaneously, allowing them to calculate the relationship between alcohol in the blood and alcohol in the breath.

When a drunk driving suspect blows into the breath alcohol tester, the machine measures the alcohol in the breath. The machine then calculates the amount of alcohol in the blood by using a blood:breath alcohol ratio. This calculation of BAC is only an estimate. However, that estimate is what goes on the police report and is what the judge will see.

The next time you have consumed alcohol and feel like you are not impaired to drive, remember these points. First, your confidence may be simply alcohol-induced euphoria. Second, your life and the lives of those you drive near may all depend on what the little breath machine thinks is normal. Are you willing to bet your freedom on the opinion of some fancy calculator? Me neither. Be safe!

Driving Instructor v Test Examiner

To get into a car along side a complete novice who has no knowledge whatsoever of handling a vehicle, let alone handle other drivers on our busy roads takes some guts. (Instructor)
Knowing how to drive is simple? Knowing the high way code is even more simple, what isn't so simple is not knowing what the other driver is going to do.

The roads would be much safer if we were mind readers but unfortunately no glass ball to check out what lies ahead. The more lessons the more in take of rules and regulations.

Instructors who EARN to drive

Over a period of time the driving instructor that was once a stranger is now your friendly passenger who wants you to excel in your need to get a pass...
Helping you to build up confidence in your self will be one of his main priorities.

Your friendly passenger has now become your companion, who throughout all your lessons has got to know you personally and corrected any bad habits you may have picked up while learning to drive

The magic moment has arrived to put in for your test. How do you know when the time is right? Simple, when the stalling or buck jumping of the car is all in the past, no more silly questions like where the clutch is. No more accidental kerb mounting.
If any one should know you are ready to take that god fearing test, it has to be the stranger your friend your companion. (You're Instructor)

He was the one who had the guts to get in beside you ignoring the dangers that lay ahead. He was with you throughout the teething stages, pampering you like a mother would with her child.

The driving instructor makes the final decision that you are ready to take to the highways. Education goes no further because your instructor has taught you all there is to know. If this stranger your friend your companion your instructor had any doubts he would not allow you to put yourself and that of other motorists in danger.

The Test

Why so many fail. The answer is nerves

They send in an official type looking geezer with a clipboard. Another stranger, only this one is never to become you're your friend your companion. He is out to pass judgment before the key is turned in the ignition

You may guarantee if some one is waiting for you to make a mistake then the inevitable happens.

This geezer's decision also undermines the driving instructor's better judgment. Driving instructors do the dirty work but when it comes to dishing out the filth, leave that to the examiners

(Earn to drive) Become a driving Instructor in your spare time. It does have its benefits and rewards.

Driving A Deal Before You Drive Off The Lot

Buying a car for yourself or as a gift for someone involves a lot more than opening up your checkbook.

You'll need to do some research before you jump in the driver's seat. According to Brad Eggleston, vice president of AutoVantage, "To help you select the best gift for yourself or that special someone, there are a few things to consider before turning into the dealer lot." Here are some tips:

First Things First

• Focus on what's important. Price, size, engine type, style, fuel economy and safety are among any buyer's main concerns.

The Internet can be a source of information to help answer those questions. Online resources can offer detailed vehicle descriptions, reviews, road tests and cost comparisons.

For example, the AutoVantage Web site offers a number of research tools for buyers of both new and used cars, including a calculator that can help a buyer determine a vehicle's value.

• If you still can't decide, calculate the cost of ownership over a five-year period by adding finance charges, fuel, insurance, maintenance and other such costs. The best deal should stand out.

Test Drive

• First, address the interior. Does it offer the space, comfort and features you're looking for?

• Concentrate on how the vehicle handles, steers, accelerates and stops. Drive a route with different road surfaces and conditions you expect to encounter. No need to rush.

Final Negotiations

• Finance beforehand, if possible, and allow room in your budget for additional fees like tax and title costs. Then figure out your bottom line price and stick to it.

• Keep in mind that the sticker price is a suggested amount. This figure is "usually the highest possible market price," according to the Kelley Blue Book. The invoice price is what the dealer paid for the car. Use this figure as your guide, and be sure to request price quotes from multiple dealerships.

• Leasing your vehicle may mean lower monthly payments and a new car every few years, but mileage limits and wear and tear sometimes leave drivers with additional costs. Buying a car will mean higher payments, but also complete ownership of your car.

Drivers: Don't Forget to Check the Antifreeze

One of the easiest and most important tasks to prepare your vehicle for winter driving is to inspect the level and freshness of your vehicle's antifreeze.

The Car Care Council recommends that motorists check their antifreeze every 12 months or 12,000 miles to help protect the engine from freezing and overheating as well as from rust and corrosion damage.

The most common formulation of antifreeze is green in color and uses ethylene glycol as a base with anti-corrosion additives mixed in. Ethylene glycol lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point of the radiator fluid to keep the water from freezing on cold days and from boiling over on hot days.

Over time, these additives wear out, lessening their ability to protect vital engine and cooling system metals against rust and corrosion. Your vehicle owner's manual will provide antifreeze usage specifications.

"Inspecting and maintaining your vehicle's cooling system takes just a few minutes of your time, but it is well worth it when you consider what could happen," said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. "Cooling system failure is the leading cause of engine related breakdowns, which can cost thousands of dollars and leave you and your family stranded at the worst possible time."

To check the level of antifreeze, you will need a few basic service tools and an antifreeze ball tester, which is available at auto parts stores.

Always make sure the engine and coolant system are cool before you begin. Opening a hot radiator or coolant reservoir can cause severe burns. If the antifreeze is low, add a 50/50 mix of approved antifreeze and distilled water. If you changed your antifreeze recently, but your level is low, use the antifreeze ball tester to make sure the antifreeze-to-water ratio is correct.

This is also a good time to inspect and replace any bad cooling system hoses. Check for leaking, brittle, spongy, cracked or rotted hoses and make sure that the radiator hose clamps are tight to prevent leaks at the connections.

Drive Smoothly Into Summer

With summer rapidly approaching, it's time to get your vehicle in shape for hot weather travel. Take a moment to perform a few quick maintenance activities that will have you cruising the streets all summer long.

"Summer's hot temperatures combined with low antifreeze/ coolant concentration levels in your vehicle may lead to an aggravating episode of engine failure. To prevent this, perform a cooling system inspection and, if necessary, a flush and fill," advises Richard Courtney, director of Prestone Products Research & Development and Technical Services.

To perform a flush and fill, simply wait until the engine is cool, drain out old antifreeze/ coolant fluid and dispose of it properly. Flush out the system with water and fill with a fresh supply of antifreeze/coolant. Try Prestone® Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant-this formula may be added to any make or model automobile or light-duty truck, foreign or domestic.

If you have recently performed a flush and fill, a top-off may be the only maintenance necessary for your cooling system. Top off with a pre-diluted formula that has the correct mix of antifreeze/coolant concentrate and water. Prestone® 50/50 Ready-to-Use Extended Life Antifreeze/ Coolant may be poured directly into the cooling system for premium quality protection.

Once your cooling system is protected, you'll be on the road in no time. But don't forget to keep your windshield clear with a summer-specific windshield washer fluid designed to combat seasonal grime. Help prevent bug buildup and other pesky road debris from collecting with Prestone® Bug Wash® Windshield Washer Fluid. The citrus-fresh formula removes bug residue, road grime, bird droppings and tree sap from windshields and leaves behind a streak-free shine for optimal visibility.

Drive Safely: Your Life Depends On It

At least 41,000 highway fatalities have been recorded in the United States every year since 1993. Deaths by car accident are usually caused by negligence, carelessness, and other factors such as drunk driving. Two famous people who met their untimely death by car accident include American Hollywood icon James Dean and Princess Diana.

Death on the road

James Dean was driving west on Highway 466 near Cholame, California when a 1950 Ford Tudor, driven from the opposite direction, attempted to take the fork onto the Highway 466 route (later called California State Route 46) and crossed into James Deans' lane without seeing the other car. The two cars collided head-on. Dean was taken rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In 1997, Princess Diana died after a high speed car accident in the Pon d'Alma road tunnel in Paris along with Dodi Al-Fayed. The car they were riding on was trying to elude paparazzi. Their black Mercedes-Benz crashed into the thirteenth pillar of the tunnel. Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed died of injuries sustained during the terrible car accident.

If any good came out of these tragedies, it was that more people became aware of the dangers of irresponsible driving. The news of the deaths of James Dean and Princess Diana came as a warning to people who were reckless with their driving. It also served as a caution to those who were careful in the way they drive in the sense that they were educated that even the most careful of drivers can get into accidents because of irresponsible motorists.

TIPS TO PREVENT CAR ACCIDENTS

Even you are a careful driver there are circumstances beyond your control. However, taking precautionary measures is a big help to avoid car accidents. Here are these tips on driving more safely:

1. DON'T USE THE CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING- Haven't you heard from the news all because of this handy dandy gadget, you find yourself more than what you bargain for. Is that call that important? Can't it wait? Certainly, you are bound to be distracted. Its even more dangerous when you are using the expressway.
2. DO A CAR CHECK REGULARLY- As much as possible, any car requires regular maintenance. Check your brakes, tires, mirrors, lights and even the windshield wiper.
3. SCAN AHEAD- Fix your eyes and scan for car's up head.
4. BE CONSIDERATE- When you tend to slowed down, put your flashers on to alert drivers behind you when they see you slowing down.
5. DON'T ACT LIKE A RACE CAR DRIVER- If you act like “Mel Gibson” as the road warrior Mad Max chances are you're courting for disaster
6. KNOW YOUR CAR'S LIMITATIONS- Not all cars are exactly alike the minivan don't go so fast like an exotic sports car. There is a performance limits of every car. Know its capabilities.
7. KEEP YOUR CAR IN GOOD SHAPE- Have a maintenance schedule.
8. NIGHTTIME IS NOT BEST TIME- If you need to travel in a very long distance—nighttime is when you hazards usually happens. You are already in the state of mental and physical fatigue. Your line of vision might already decreased. Drive so carefully at this witching hour and keep your headlights on.

9. WHEN YOU DRINK DON'T DRIVE AND VICE VERSA- It is a big mortal sin if you do...being drunk while driving is like you're planning to have a date with “Death” so soon.
10. KEEP YOUR CAR NEAT AND TIDY- A messy car is another one way ticket to road accident. Why? If you leave some objects around and it slides or roll under your brake pedal, your attention was taken off the road and what happens next you lose control of the car.

Those tips might not be fool proof against road accidents but nevertheless, an once of prevention is better than none. A vehicle is one invention; man can't live without. But if its not use wisely then it might cause the one precious thing most people value here on earth and that is----LIFE!

Donating Used Cars For A Cause

Modern technology has produced a surplus of goods which we find difficult to dispose of. While many of us are sensibly reaping the fruits of our contemporary development and affluence, it is not a bad idea to share some of our blessings to financially disadvantaged people.

What to donate?

There are hundreds of things to donate, as there are various ways to do it. As more and more people suffer from financial burden, increasing numbers of people are incapacitated to reach out to different places and are an impediment from the many opportunities waiting for them in the outside world.

Cars are considered to be one of our primary needs in this modern time. While more than 80% of most American adults own cars or at least renting their own cars, there are still some who cannot finance the purchase of their own automobiles.

This can isolate individuals and discriminate against them due to their financial situation. This is such a sad fact, yet, the good news is that you can do something to stop it or at least, be part of the cause in solving this part of this global dilemma.

Statistics

Just exactly how many individuals are getting into this humanitarian cause? From 1992 to present alone, institutions catering for car donations services have estimated to receive more than 35,000 cars a month within that period.

If you are planning to buy a new car and replace an existing one and have not come up with an idea where to put it, either selling it or rebuilding it, perhaps donating it to a charitable institution could solve your problem and potentially make a big difference in the lives of others.

How Can I donate my car?

Car donation centers usually offer services that including picking up the automobile you would like to donate (free of charge for most car charity institutions), prepare the title transfer requirements, and all legal documents related to the clearing of ownership of the car.

Most charitable donation centers who accept automobiles, provide a tax-deductible donation receipt to the donor in due consideration for donated cars.

Determining Eligibility for Car Assistance

Members of the board of charitable institutions choose among the list of applicants requesting a vehicle. Together, they determine the eligibility and proof of financial incapacity among applicants to purchase automobiles.

Preference will be awarded to individuals who have clear credit standing showing inability to purchase automobile machines. The car beneficiary will undergo the same legal process of transfer requirements to legitimately take its title of ownership.

Donating An Automobile To Charity? Don’t Forget The Tax Deductions!

When donating an automobile to charity, you’ll want to think about tax deductions. According to Publication 4303, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state charity officials provide general guidelines for donations.

In the case than an individual is eligible to deduct charitable donations for federal income tax purposes, there are steps that must be taken. Only if the charity receiving the vehicle is a qualified organization, can this happen. Charitable, religious, and educational organizations usually qualify.

To verify a charity organization, simply call the account services division of the IRS and see if it has tax exemption status. If an organization is located at a church, synagogue, temple, or mosque, it is not required to apply for exemption.

Some charity only allows for limited tax deductions. Your tax deduction cannot exceed 50 percent of your adjusted gross income and other limitations may apply as well. You can research a specific type of charity contribution and learn how it will affect your taxes. Generally though, the largest amount of money you can deduct from your income tax return is simply the fair value of your automobile – whatever price a person would buy it for.

It is important to take care of the vehicle’s records, as they may be required to authenticate your donation. Furthermore, if you plan to deduct more than $250, you should ask for a written acknowledgment from the charity about the donation. The document should feature the name of the charity, a description of the automobile, a statement that clarifies that no goods or services, beyond religious guidance or instruction, were exchanged for the automobile.

You must obtain this written acknowledgment on or before the due date of your return; the same year you donated the vehicle. It can be a paper copy or a mere e-mail.

As for charities, they must be available for public inspection so as to secure their tax exemption status. As well, they must provide documents that show their annual returns.

Don't Sweat It: Cooling System Maintenance is Easy

When AAA reports that millions of vehicles overheat each year, it's clear that people are apprehensive about cooling system maintenance.

Compounding the anxiety is the overwhelming number of coolant formulas and colors on store shelves today. It's no wonder that motorists simply don't know which antifreeze/coolant is right for their vehicles.

But now, drivers no longer need to worry; there is a product on the market that makes cooling system maintenance a breeze.

New Prestone All Makes All Models Extended Life Antifreeze/ Coolant can be used in all car and light-duty truck makes and models, domestic or foreign, and can be added to any antifreeze/coolant on the market today - regardless of color.

"Advancements in vehicle technology caused antifreeze manufacturers to concoct a variety of formulas to meet the needs of different cooling systems. As a result, the market became crowded, complex and confusing for motorists," said Kelley O'Donnell, Prestone product manager. "We wanted to end the confusion for motorists. Our new formula, when used as directed, can be added to any antifreeze/coolant in any vehicle with no adverse effects - a true benefit for consumers."

The Prestone All Makes All Models Extended Life Antifreeze/ Coolant is available in both full concentrate and premixed forms.

When using the concentrated formula to flush and fill a vehicle, motorists should consult the vehicle owner's manual to determine the specific maintenance and changeover intervals recommended for that vehicle.

In between these services, motorists should top off the system with a premixed formula, which features the precise mixture of antifreeze concentrate and de-mineralized water.

"Cooling system maintenance no longer has to be daunting," O'Donnell said. "Forget about colors. Forget about different formulas for different systems. Drivers simply need to remember that an all-encompassing product, like Prestone All Makes All Models Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant, can be used in any car or light-duty truck."

Don't Let Potholes Puncture Spring Fun

Many of us eagerly await the arrival of spring every year. But once the spring showers wash away what's left of winter, often we are left dodging potholes on the roads.

Potholes form as pavement ages and weathers. The pavement eventually begins to lose its ability to resist water, and small cracks start to appear. As water works its way down into the cracks and expands as it freezes, it pushes up on the pavement. The weight of cars and trucks can break up this uneven pavement, creating a pothole.

Hitting a pothole can easily ruin your beautiful spring day, not to mention your tires or wheels. The sharp impact caused by hitting a pothole can cause immediate tire or wheel failure. Or, internal damage could eventually lead to tire failure weeks or months later. Despite the dangers of potholes, there are measures you can take:

* Start with proper tire inflation. Keeping your tires properly inflated will help reduce damage from potholes and other road hazards.

* Check the tread on your tires, because uneven wear can be a sign of misalignment. Hitting potholes can affect your vehicle's alignment. If you feel your car "pulling" to one side during driving, that's a sign that you could have a problem. Have your Firestone Complete Auto Care service professional make sure your wheels and tires are properly aligned and balanced.

* If you can't avoid hitting a pothole, do not brake during the impact. Instead, try to apply brakes before hitting and release them just prior to impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tire and wheel assembly for a "solid hit" against the edge of the hole. Severe damage can be better avoided when a tire is rolling, rather than skidding, over a hole during braking.

Just as you undertake spring cleaning to get your house in order, take advantage of the warmer weather to make sure your tires and vehicle are also in the best possible condition. Properly maintaining your tires includes proper rotation, inflation, repair and replacement.

Remember to check your tire pressure at least once a month and be sure to rotate your tires according to recommendations in your owner's manual. Following these simple maintenance tips can help you avoid the pitfalls of wet driving conditions or dreaded potholes.

Don't Go Without A Car Warranty

When you are purchasing a car, whether it is used or new, there are many things to keep in mind. You have so many details to remember as you are becoming a car owner and taking on that new responsibility. Don't forget, however, to talk about getting a car warranty in the midst of your busyness.

Getting a car warranty is an absolute must when you are purchasing a car of any value to you. Basically, a car warranty means that you are covered if things go wrong with your vehicle. Be careful, however, because not all warranties are the same. They will cover different damages and they will last a different number of years or number of miles that you drive your car, so you must proceed with caution when you are choosing a car warranty.

Talk with the car salesman about all of your options for choosing the car warranty that is best for you. Be sure to check the details of exactly how long the car warranty will be effective and the specific damages that it will and will not cover for your vehicle. The worst thing you can do is to get stuck with a warranty that is not good for you or the needs of your vehicle.

You should also take the time to talk with family members or friends who recently have purchased vehicles. Talking with other car owners about the car warranty that they have chosen is a great way to get perspective from someone other than a car salesman. You need to take your time and become as informed as possible. After all, you are talking about protecting your car. Cars are expensive and replacing them is not easy, so use caution and come up with a plan that is great for you.

A car warranty is meant to offer you protection so that you know your car is taken care of know matter what happens to it once you start driving it. Regardless of how clean your driving record is, you can never be sure that you will be accident free in the years to come. There are just too many factors at stake to risk not having a car warranty, so make sure that you get one no matter what advice you receive.

Having a car warranty will give you the freedom to drive your new car with ease and to be confident that you have great insurance on it no matter what happens on the road or in a
parking lot.

Don’t Crash The Car, Well Even If You Do The Car Will Save You

Have you been drinking and driving? Or perhaps chatting on your mobile while driving? If you are a little careless while you drive and are prone to having a bump here and there you are better off getting your hands on a new set of wheels with active safety technologies. Car manufacturers such as Mercedes are incorporating space age technology into their cars to save lives or rather save us from crashing our buggies when we are simply too careless with our own lives. This might sound science fiction to you but these are some of the technologies Mercedes’s latest S Class has:

Auto cruise control warns you if you are getting too close to the car in front and if you don’t react it applies brakes on its own to maintain a safe driving distance.

Traction control sense when you steer too sharply or lose traction in the wet and cuts engine power and limits the power individually to each wheel to bring you back on track.
Anti Lock Braking System, this has been around for quite some time now. ABS helps in achieving best possible braking performance, it prevent jamming of the wheel which results in skids and loss of vehicle control. The computer senses when the wheels are about to lock and releases the brakes momentarily and then applies them again.

Airbags, as many as 8 airbags protect you in the unlikely event of a crash. Airbags exist for all passengers and are inflated in milliseconds when the care ‘senses’ a crash. Airbags can protect the occupant even at 100mph crashes.

Space Age Safety Technology
Now this is the most impressive of them all, the Mercedes S Class sense when the car is going to meet with a crash using it 360 degree radar and braces for impact. It rolls up windows if they are down, inflates the seat cushions to protect occupants and lowers the steering to save the driver from chest injuries and lowers pedals to prevent foot injuries.

Now that’s some technology, all to save our lives when we loose control. Maybe if Diana was riding this S Class she would have been amongst us. So lets not crash it, for if you do the car will save you but repairing the high tech car will burn your pockets for technology doesn’t come cheap. The fully loaded Mercedes S500 with all the safety features retails at over $1,25,000!
