Selecting the Right Forklift

A forklift is not only a vehicle, it is a tool. A tool capable of lifting objects weighing thousands of pounds. It is very similar to a small truck, but has a hydraulic system that supports a fork in the front. That fork is adjusted by the hydraulic systems, when the pistons move, and can lift heavy weights. All forklifts have a driver or operator that will use the wheel to manoeuvre the vehicle close the object that needs to be lifted. Then the operator uses the hydraulic system to lift or bring down cargo and objects. The forks of the lift are metal and made out of steel for added durability. Just like every other vehicle you can find forklifts new and used when looking to buy. It is important to know exactly what operation you would like the forklift to perform before acquiring one. There are differences in the way forklifts operate. Once there is decision made about what is the exact use of the forklift then the issue of price comes into play. The general price for a brand new forklift ranges between $10,000 and $30,000. The price of the forklift depends primarily on the power source the particular forklift uses. For instance forklifts that use electricity as a power source are pricier than the ones with combustion engines. Depending on what kind of motor, electric or internal combustion, the capabilities of the forklifts lifting power changes. In general, the bigger the motor and lifting capacity the higher the price of the forklift will be. Finding the right forklift and buying it is not easy. There are so many models, makes and kinds of forklifts at many prices. Some are new some are used is nearly impossible to find the perfect one. The first thing someone should consider when buying a lift is whether it will serve their needs. Then after examining its structural condition there needs to be an assessment of the price to see if it is worth the money. Forklifts are not cheap. That’s why, just like every other vehicle, there is a market for used ones. A used forklift can cost half as much as a new one and can be just as good. The same argument stands with forklifts as it does with cars and trucks, a used vehicle may break down more often, need more parts, older ones might have increased fuel consumption and sometimes warranties have already expired. Regardless of whether one decides to get a new or used forklift, it is important to decide what kind of forklift to acquire. Certain forklifts are destined for indoor use while other ones can perform tasks outdoors on gravel roads and uneven terrain. Forklifts are either powered by gasoline, propane, or electricity. Electric forklifts use batteries to store electricity. Although, internal combustion forklifts that burn gasoline or propane sometimes stronger or faster than electric forklifts, they are more prone to problems and need to be maintained frequently. When buying a forklift you should keep in mind that fuel is costly. Another thing you might need to take in consideration is the indoor/outdoor factor. If you need a forklift for indoor use then you might want to get an electric one. A forklift running on an electric motor means no fumes to worry about.

Your Guide To Towing – Know Before You Tow

If you love to camp, hike, fish, water ski and enjoy the great outdoors; chances are there will come a time when you want to tow a boat or camping trailer. Know before you tow with this guide to towing. Here are some terms you should be familiar with and what you need to check. The Base Curb Weight + Cargo Weight + Passenger Weight = GVW or Gross Vehicle Weight. The GVW + Loaded Trailer Weight = GCW or Gross Combination Weight. The GVW must not exceed the GVWR which can be found on the safety Compliance Certification label. The GVWR is the maximum weight allowed on a fully loaded vehicle. This includes passengers and cargo. Once you have this information, you will be able to figure out what size trailer a vehicle can tow. There are two different types of hitches on the market. A weight carrying hitch is common for small to medium size trailers. Use a good weight carrying hitch that properly distributes the weight. You’ll find a label on the hitch that provides the weight carrying and weight distributing capacity of the hitch. Don’t exceed the rating. The weight distributing hitch uses a hitch platform to distribute the tongue load to all the wheels of the towing vehicle and trailer. It is the required type of hitch for most Class III and IV trailers. This type of hitch is welded or bolted to the frame of the vehicle and it has equalizing arms that are connected from the hitch to the trailer’s frame. Besides the GVWR and the correct type of hitch, you also need to make sure your braking system is adequate. If your load is more than 1500 pounds, the law requires a separate braking system. There are two types on the market. Electronically controlled brakes provide both automatic and manual control of the trailer brakes. The tow vehicle needs to be equipped with a controlling device and requires some wiring. Surge brakes are independent and are activated by a master cylinder that is located at the junction of the trailer tongue and hitch. Make sure your braking system conforms with all legal requirements. The trailer will also need to be equipped with trailer lights that meet government regulations. Do not connect the trailer lights directly to the vehicle’s lighting system. They need to be installed with a proper wiring harness. See your dealer to ensure you have the correct wiring harness for your vehicle. Safety chains should always be used when towing. They provide a connection between the trailer and the vehicle should the hitch fail. Cross the chains under the trailer tongue to stop the tongue from connecting with the ground if the hitch fails, and leave only enough slack to allow for a full turn. A trailer is a great investment. It will take you from the mountains to the valleys and from the river to the lakes. If you haven’t towed before it’s natural to feel overwhelmed about choosing a vehicle and trailer to tow safely. This guide to towing will have you confidently towing in no time!

Wide Open Spaces – How To Share The Roads Peacefully With Trucks

On your local news program, you may hear stories about an “out of control” truck wiping out a car load of people or destroying property. The media sensationalizes the facts, often putting most of the blame with the truckers. However, many times that is not the case. For the most part, truckers are responsible drivers who are diligent about road safety. Not only are they making sure they adhere to the rules of the road, but they also have to keep an eye on the nincompoop drivers of passenger vehicles who think they are the exception to the rules. There are a few common problems that truckers come across with motorists. These problems are often also the ones most sited on insurance claims. Are you guilty of any of these practices?: 1. Brake this habit – Everyone at one point or another gets stuck behind a large truck. So the most logical next step is to change lanes to pass the truck. No problems with that … the problem lies in a vehicle cutting back into the truck’s lane right in front of them, then braking for a turn or just slowing down, period. What most motorists don’t take into account is that truckers need a lot of space in order to slow down, at least two to three times the amount of passenger vehicles. 2. Peek-a-boo! – Now you see them, now you don’t. This peek-a-boo game is very troublesome to truckers. Large trucks have several blind spots which make it hard for the drivers to see other motorists who like to hang out there. The best thing that you can do is either pass the truck or stay a comfortable distance behind them. When in doubt, check for the trucker’s side view mirrors. If you can see them, then chances are that they might be able to see you too. 3. Back up and try again – In this day and age of technology, people are more accustomed to instant results and hate waiting for anything. Unfortunately, when big trucks have to back into a space, it may take a few tries to succeed. Motorists should appreciate the fact that these trucks are bigger than they are and let the truckers do their job. Patience can be a virtue! 4. Teach a lesson – Some drivers of passenger vehicles like to try and “teach” truckers a lesson. Sometimes, drivers think that the big trucks are either going too fast or slow. So they’ll speed up to pass the trucker, then get back in the trucker’s lane and slow down! Many parents tell their kids, “Worry about yourself,” and it would be smart for other motorists to heed that advice. Leave it to the troopers and policemen to enforce the laws of the road. Common sense is what all these problems boil down to. Each person driving on the road is in charge of themselves. By exercising a little of that common sense, many accidents involving big trucks and passenger vehicles could be avoided. That old adage, “It is better to be safe than sorry,” certainly applies!

Why Do People Gamble? Reasons to Gambling Popularity

Gambling in its various forms has been popular for centuries in different cultures all over the entire world. Whether through the national lottery, in horse racing tracks or in casino table games, people are wagering their money hoping to win big time. Although the number of people who go home with life changing winnings is much smaller than the number of people who have left their money in the casinos, race tracks or bingo halls, the popularity of the pastime has not been reduced through the years. Despite the low odds of stepping out as winners in most popular forms of gambling is a well known fact, even though gambling suffers from a bad reputation and even when it is illegal, gambling is still one of the most popular pastimes in the world. So, why do people gamble? The most obvious answer would be money, but it will not be a full answer. There are many other reasons that drive people to the nearest gambling facility. Here we will try to offer an answer to this disturbing question. Luck: the irrational believe in luck is engraved in most of us. These unexplained gut feelings that a special day or a certain number is luckier than the others are sends a lot of people to gamble or even gamble on the same numbers over and over again. Social Purposes: have you ever wonder how can a group of people beat the pants off someone in a poker game and remain best buddies? You can see it in bingo halls, casino bars and friendly poker games: many people see gambling as an opportunity to make new friends or spend time with old friends in addition to the chance of earning additional money. Entertainment: many people visit casinos and play their favorite casino games simply because they love it and they are having a great time. In Las Vegas casinos for example, you will meet more recreational gamblers who see gambling as part of their vacation activities than professional gamblers who take gambling as a serious source of income. Excitement: the act of gambling apparently can give you quite an adrenaline rush. Regardless of the money aspect, the anticipation of the outcome of the game while still not knowing whether it would match your bet is what makes all forms of gambling so thrilling and exciting. Relaxation: as opposed to the accelerated adrenaline rush described by many gamblers, many gamblers find the gambling experience relaxing. When you think about it, what can be more relaxing than ending a busy work week in the comfortable casino atmosphere, playing your favorite game and served free drinks? Boredom: whether exciting or relaxing, when the daily lives become an unbearable routine, gambling can serve as a way to escape reality. Money: in addition to all the reasons mentioned above, gambling allegedly provides an opportunity to can earn unbelievable amounts of money within short time and minimum investment. Even if you are aware to the exact mathematical odds of beating each and every gambling game, if you are an optimist by nature, this slightest chance would nevertheless drive you to a casino, a bookie, a lottery terminal or a bingo hall.

Should You Personalize Your Car?

I am sure that you have seen custom street cars and that you have asked yourself if you should personalize your own car... The answer is very simple: it depends totally on your style, personality, habits and needs. This may sound strange, but there are only two types of car owners: the ones that love comfort and are prepared to spend large sums for greater protection, and the ones that love the adrenaline surge and are deeply attached to their car, considering it sometimes as a friend and in other cases as a part of themselves or their personality. People of the first type view cars as a way of getting from one place to another quickly and comfortably. They don't really need a custom stree car. But those of the other type are perfect candidates. For them, personalizing their cars is like boosting and refreshing their personalities. Why do some people want to have custom street cars? The answer is simple. Most of them want them to impress others and express themselves in a new way. Others want them for races. But how does one get to own a custom street car? Custom street cars are really normal purchased cars, whatever the brand, which are then customized according to the 'visions' of their owners. Some custom street cars are so heavily modified that they have little in common with the original thing. The commonest changes pertain to the look and design of the car. These are 'upgraded' with a modern touch, stickers, neon lighting and under-car LEDs, paint, window graphics and so on. But the most important thing that is subjected to such customizations, especially in the case of race cars, is of course the engine. The fastest and easiest way to obtain an adrenaline rush at full speed on these custom street car is to use the renowned nitro boosts. Rpm boosts and fuel intake enhancements are also very often used. The ignition system is also important and some add silencers for comfort. If the custom street car isn't being personalized for races, then the owners normally emphasizes style and design. Securing Your Collector Car

You worked hard to put yourself in a position to afford that dream weekend cruiser you always wanted. Most likely it was a car you loved when you were growing up and set your mind on buying one at some point in your life. Now you have it. Is it protected properly? How many people have their dream car properly secured with an appropriate security system? Probably not many. I know I didn’t have a security system for any of the three cars I had. My first car was actually parked outside in my driveway and it wasn’t the best neighborhood. I am currently without my weekend car, I sold my last one, a 13,000 mile 1987 Buick Grand National, when my daughter was born. One thing is for sure though, I will have a system put in for my next car, when it does come. My mother-in-law’s house was broken into a few days before Christmas last year. She had a lot of her most valuable possessions stolen. She was lucky enough that the police caught the crooks the next day at the pawn shop. But, it caused me to take a closer look at how secure my home was. I previously thought that if you wanted a really quality system you needed to pay a monthly monitoring fee to one of the big companies such as ADT or Brinks. I soon found out this was not the case at all. You can actually build a much more effective system on your own for far less money than those companies. Only 12.9% of burglars are caught throughout the whole country. I would hate to see my car stolen when I get my next one, which I hope will be soon. I often talk to many people on the various discussion boards I am a member of and a lot of them are in the same boat I was, they had no idea what they could do for so little money. As a result of technology advancing so quickly you can actually buy color video cameras, a set of three for roughly $170. You can add in a recording device for even less than that. You can buy motion sensors that will turn lights on in your home if any motion is detected in your yard. You can attach speakers that give off the sound of an angry barking dog when motion is detected. I don’t know about you but if I were a crook looking to break in and steal something, like a car, I would not go to the house with the angry dog in the garage. There are endless amounts of possibilities on what you can do to protect your house, garage, or more importantly, that weekend toy. One thing I will be doing for sure is the cameras. In the event my car is stolen this will increase my chances my car will be found or they person that stole my car will be caught because I will have video proof of who took it. Many car lovers spend thousands of dollars on their cars. They spend hours washing and waxing their rides. They have emotional connections with their cars in most cases. What is a couple hundred dollars to prevent it from being taken? When you think about it, isn’t it a must have for your car?

The Rapid Vehicle Motor Company

The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was started in 1902 by Max Grabowski. It was the manufacturer of some of the earliest trucks and was purchased in 1909 by GM. In 1912 the name GMC was first used at the New York Auto Show and in 1996 the suffix Truck was dropped. What most people don't know is that GMC also makes cars. In 1902 Max Grabowski founded a company called the "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company", which developed some of the earliest commercial trucks ever designed. In 1909 the company was bought by General Motors to form the basis of the General Motors Truck Company, from which GMC Truck was made. In 1912 the name "GMC Truck" was first shown at the New York Auto Show. In 1996 GM dropped the word 'truck' from the GMC Truck name, thus creating the GMC name as we know it today. There never was a Grabowski Motor Company or a Grabowski Motor Corp. They now make personal automobiles, as well as pickup truck and bus engines. General Motors Corporation NYSE: GM, also known as GM, is a United States-based automobile maker with worldwide operations and brands including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Daewoo, GMC, Holden, Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saturn, Saab, and Vauxhall Chevrolet and GMC divisions produce trucks, as well as passenger vehicles. Other brands include ACDelco, Allison Transmission, and General Motors Electro-Motive Division that produces diesel-electric locomotives. GM also has stakes in Isuzu, Subaru, and Suzuki in Japan and a joint venture with AutoVAZ (Lada) in Russia. In December 2003, it acquired Delta in South Africa, in which it had taken a 45 percent stake in 1997, and which is now a fully-owned subsidiary, General Motors South Africa. GM's headquarters are in the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. General Motors is the world's largest vehicle manufacturer and employs over 340,000 people. In 2001, GM sold 8.5 million vehicles through all its branches. In 2002, GM sold 15 percent of all cars and trucks in the world. They also owned Electronic Data Systems from 1984 to 1996 which is a former Ross Perot company and, prior to selling it to News Corporation, DirecTV. GM owned Frigidaire from 1918 to 1979. The current chairman (since May 1, 2003) and chief executive officer (since June 1, 2000) is Rick Wagoner, succeeding John F. Smith, Jr. General Motors is selling its 20 percent stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent of Subaru, in a deal that could raise more than $700 million as per news released on October 6, 2005. Also, General Motors Canada auto workers voted on Sunday to ratify a new contract that will lay off 1,000 workers over the next three years, the Canadian Auto Workers and GM said. General Motors lost 2.5 billion dollars last year, and would have made a profit if it was not saddled with 6 billion dollars in health costs. The UAW and GM are now reaching agreement to reduce this health cost by about 1 billion dollars annually.

Poker Betting Limit: How to Pick One 4 U

Before you head for the nearest empty chair at an open poker table, hold on. There is one very important factor that you must check and verify before you start playing. What? Check the betting limit of that particular table. Why? This is what determines the professional skills of the poker players you will face and will also help you calculate approximately how much cash you need for this particular round of betting. For the Casual Poker Fan: You should try and begin by selecting a table with a low limit. Here, you will enjoy the relatively casual ambience and friendly opponents, who will not have a lot of experience playing and thus you stand a fair chance of winning. The slight problem with such games is that such kinds of tables are difficult to locate. In addition, those playing at such tables tend to play in a very conservative manner and this slows down the flow of the game. If you are still interested in looking for such tables you will be able to find them at the downtown casinos and gambling halls or at poker rooms not located on the Las Vegas strip itself such as the Palace Station. Wish to Play Texas Holdem Instead? Here too, select the lower limit games such as the 4/8 version. In this game, you will be allowed to increase only by four dollars and hence the name. Then, when you come to the last two betting rounds, you will have to double it to eight dollars. Likewise, you can also find the following limits: two and then four, three and then six, four and then eight, eight and then sixteen, fifteen and then thirty, thirty and then sixty and the last one which is pretty different to find (and which unless you are prepared to dish out large sums, you should avoid.) forty and then eight during the last two rounds of betting. How Many Chips Should You Purchase In Such Games? What you can do is multiply the end limit by about twenty and then make sure you have that amount. For example, if you wanted to join a table where the limit is two and then four. Multiply four into twenty and you get eighty. So, this is the sum of chips you must bring in to the game by buying them from the cash counters in the casino. Another option is playing Texas holdem with no limits whatsoever, but beware. Such games pull pros and then you will find yourself at a big disadvantage. For the Experienced Poker Player: Most pros prefer playing Texas holdem than other poker games. And such professionals opt for games with no limit or that have a high limit of at least fifteen dollars. Beware, these tables (You can find them in the top casinos such as the Bellagio and others on the strip.) are places where you can lose hundreds of dollars in minutes so unless you are aware of this or unless you want to swim with the sharks because you consider yourself a shark too, stay away. Conclusion: Note that sometimes the tables might be occupied and it might take you a while to get a seat. Remember that this is not an online casino where tables are always open. Have patience and wait and do not leave and just join a higher or lower limit table than the one you have decided on. Remember that the outcome of your casino experience depends on this decision.

Solitaire Klondike: Learn How to Play

Since computers entered each and every household, classroom and office, solitaire became the most popular game. It is simple to learn, easy to play, and addictive because of its simplicity. But that was ages ago, and people have begun to grow tired of that same old game. As a result, they turned to new variations and Klondike is the most popular of them. Ironically, its not a new game. The term Klondike as a game surfaces somewhere in the latter part of the nineteen hundred, and historians suggest that it evolved from miners in the Alaskan and Californian mountains to pass the time. How Can You Play Klondike? This is not a difficult game to learn, but what's good is that though you will get the hang of it quickly, its difficult to beat in an addictive way. Its not frustrating, but fun and invigorating. One of the things you must learn is how to lay the cards out. 1) Start by placing one card on the table in front of you. Place it facing up. 2) Place another six cards to its left, but keep these facing down. 3) Place a card facing up to the card left of the first card you placed down. 4) Add another card facing down to all the remaining cards a bit below them so as to form a column. Likewise, continue by placing one open card and then by adding a closed card to the rest. If you follow the instructions properly, you should have it so that last column will have seven cards. Check also that you have twenty-four cards in your hand because these are the cards you will play with. Now What? What you have to try and do is place all the cards on the four different aces. These will appear whenever they do, and you have to try and create the four suited sequence from the ace to the king. The moment you see and ace, place it on the side and start adding the next card. (eg: After an ace, place a two and then a three.) Note that each suit must be according to colour and type. By this I mean that the ace of diamond gets only diamonds, the ace of spades gets only spade cards and so on. Likewise, you can create card sequences down on the base cards as well by placing the card lower than it of the opposite colour. For instance, under a six of clubs, you can place either a five of diamonds or a five of hearts, but the five of clubs or the five of spades is out of the question. Opening the Cards Facing Down When you can use the cards facing up, then you can open the card that appears under it. And like in regular Solitaire, when you manage to open a base card and have only six or less bases, you can open a new base by placing a King there. Moving Sequences You can also move card sequences from one base to another and this doesn't depend on the length of the sequence. All that matters is that the rules of sequence are kept. To use the cards in your hand, take the top three cards and turn them over. But remember that you can use only the top card. Only if and when you use that card, you can use the next one under it. Continue revealing batches of three. Once done, pick up all the cards and start again.

The Story Of Porsche Automobiles

The story of Porsche could begin in 1950 with the introduction of the Porsche 356 to the United States by Max Hoffman. It could begin in 1948, when the first auto bearing the name of Porsche came out. However, to get a real grip on the heritage of Porsche, you must go back as far as 1875. In September of that year, Ferdinand Porsche was born in the bohemian village of Haffersdorf. Ferdinand Porsche showed indications of his technical genius at the age of 18 when he wired the family home for electricity. His only formal education was received when he was a part-time engineering student in Vienna, although the title ‘Doctor’ is often appended to his name. By the time he was 25, Porsche had gone into automotive design. The Viennese firm of Loyner & Co. accepted his first car design. Over the next twenty years, he successfully associated himself with every major car manufacturer in Germany, and he designed about a dozen of the most technically important automobiles in history at the same time. When he worked for Mercedes-Benz, he helped to create the SSK series, while for NSU, he designed the Auto Union Wandered and the Type 32, which as an ancestor of the Volkswagen Beetle. His disagreements with Mercedes-Benz over the company’s engineering policies prompted him to establish his own engineering group, which became Porsche A.G. He collected a premier group of engineers to work under the name of “Doctor of Engineering Ferdinand Porsche, Inc. Construction Facility for Land, Air, and Sea Transportation” in Stuttgart. His son, Ferry, was one of his employees, and his major interest was in sport and racing cars. The elder Porsche and his engineers were busy. They developed for Steyr, a luxury sedan in Austria, but this vehicle did not make it out of the prototype stage. They also worked for Auto Union, which is now Audi, the firm that created the Front, the first front-drive economy car in the world. They also created the mid-engine Grand Prix cars and supercharged V-12 and V-16 engines. These, along with the racers from Mercedes-Benz, dominated European auto racetracks for almost ten years. The company created its most well-known designs for NSU and Zundapp. Prototypes were characterized by Porsche’s torsion-bar suspension and rear-mounted engine. Neither of the firms manufactured the designs, so Porsche sold the idea to the German government. He then provided the oversight on the construction of a plant in Wolfsburg to build the design. He called it the Type 60, but the world knows it as the Volkswagen Beetle. After World War II, the Porsche Company began to create the vehicles that now bear the name of Porsche. Almost one hundred years later, Porsche became the marque, and the family that developed the unique and lasting contributions to automotive design and engineering has gone down in history.

Why not a cold air intake?

Squeezing more power out of your engine is not as difficult or as expensive a task as you might think. Performance chips, performance exhausts, and sport air filters are all easy to install parts that can help your car achieve greater horsepower and torque without sacrificing fuel economy. In addition, a cold air intake can go a long way toward helping your engine perform better without costing you a mint to install. Let’s examine why a cold air intake just might be the enhancement your car could use to achieve a greater level of performance. So, just how does a cold air intake work? I am glad that you asked! A cold air intake is designed to decrease the temperature of the air entering your car to take full advantage of your engine’s power. Colder, denser air acts like “food” for your engine, giving it the extra amount of power that it needs to perform optimally. Are there other benefits of a cold air intake? Yes, namely two: a cold air intake enhances the look of your vehicle's engine bay and it produces an awesome sounding “throaty” intake noise. The intake noise is what tells everyone that your car is not some ordinary stock car, instead you are making a statement that the noise coming from underneath your car’s hood matches the power and performance that they will see on the street. Depending on the manufacturer you select, your new cold air intake is available in an assortment of colors including red, blue, silver, and chrome. Let’s just say that the colors developed are meant to draw maximum attention to your engine bay when you pop the hood for everyone to see! When shopping for a cold air intake for your car, there are several things for you top keep in mind as you narrow down your selection. The following list can help you determine the cold air intake that is right for you: Manufacturer – There are many companies producing cold air intakes, some are better than others. Injen and K&N are two that are preferred by the aftermarket crowd. Look for those intakes that come with a reusable air filter for the best value. Performance – Claims for outlandish increases in horsepower should serve as a red flag to you. Modest increases of 10, 15 or 20 horses are certainly reasonable depending on the make and model of your vehicle. Guarantee – Higher quality intakes carry a warranty that will likely outlast the life of your car. Some even give one million mile guarantees! Retailers – Prices are literally all over the place. The best prices can usually be found right online with a wholesaler such as The Parts Bin. Shop only those companies who can provide to you online support, free shipping, a toll free number, and a clearly stated price list. Watch out for off shore operators who promise low prices on parts that might not be genuine. In all, a cold air intake should provide the performance edge your car, truck, van, or SUV needs without taking away from fuel economy. In fact, a cold air intake can actually increase your fuel economy as your engine “learns” to work more efficiently, thus needing less fuel to run.

Professional Maintenance Tips To Get Your Car Ready For The Road

Anytime of year can be the right time to get your car in tip-top shape. Experts know that a top-notch pit crew can make the difference between winning or being an also-ran-even if you're just getting ready for the next family trip. That's why it's important to remember that not all auto repair technicians are created equal. Just ask Todd Berrier, crew chief for Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 29 GM Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo SS. "It's my job to make sure Kevin (Harvick's) car is in perfect working condition at every race," said Berrier. He recommends having a trained technician "sweat the details" like he does and inspect the following before you hit the road: • Tire pressure: About 20 percent of cars inspected in check lanes during National Car Care Month have underinflated tires, which can result in blowouts and serious accidents. Underinflation is the leading cause of tire failure, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA). In addition, low tire pressure can reduce gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent. • Wipers: Generally, wipers should be replaced every six months, ideally in the spring and fall, making now the perfect time to take a look at them. Also, make sure the windshield washers work properly and keep the washer fluid reservoir full. • Lubricants and Fluids: Nearly 30 percent of vehicles failed inspections as a result of too little, too much or dirty motor oil, and 26 percent had low, overfull or burnt transmission fluid. Twenty-one percent had low or dirty power steering fluid, 23 percent had low or contaminated brake fluid, and 18 percent failed the washer fluid inspection. Improper fluid levels affect your vehicle's safety and can damage vehicle components. • Parts: It is important to have items such as belts and hoses regularly inspected and replaced with the right parts when needed. Genuine GM replacement parts, for example, are manufactured to the same specifications of the company's vehicles. A broken belt or ruptured hose can cause costly engine damage and travel delays. "Regular vehicle maintenance and inspections can help improve a vehicle's fuel efficiency, achieve peak performance and even help avoid major repairs down the road," said Peter Lord, executive director, GM Service Operations. Lord also emphasizes the importance of technician training when it comes to getting superior maintenance. For instance, according to federal statistics and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), only about half of the 820,000 auto service technicians in the U.S. are certified by ASE, an industry-recognized leader in technician certification. He points out that not only are GM Goodwrench technicians ASE-certified-and recertified every five years-they receive additional training beyond the ASE requirements. These technicians are prepped to maintain and repair GM vehicles with a full line of products for one-stop service at over 7,000 GM dealership locations nationwide.

Premium Exhaust Systems Rock

Stock exhaust systems are designed to adequately convert unsafe emissions into minimally harmful exhaust. Unfortunately, these particular types of systems are prone to corrosion. It is not unusual for owners to have to replace their muffler, a tail pipe, or even a catalytic converter at some point during the time that they own their vehicle. If automobile manufacturers would only fit their vehicles with premium exhaust systems this problem would cease to exist. Unfortunately, it is the “bottom line” that determines that decision. Let’s take a look at premium exhaust systems as they are definitely something you many want to consider the next time your exhaust system has to be replaced. When it comes to premium exhausts systems, a Borla exhaust system is the benchmark by which all others are designed. The reason? Aircraft quality material, specifically T-304 stainless steel the same steel that goes into building all those lovely Boeing aircraft you see in our skies, is what a Borla exhaust is made of. There are a number of reasons why a premium [also known as performance] exhaust system makes sense: Long Lasting -- Quite frankly, it helps to make an exhaust system out of something that cannot easily corrode. The makers of Borla exhausts discovered that aircraft quality stainless steel was the most likely to endure changing temperatures and road conditions, therefore they build them with only the best materials and back them up with a one million mile warranty. Gee, just how many people do you think will even keep their cars that long? Not many; likely a performance exhaust system would be the last exhaust system for that car. Economical -- Say again?! Yes, your cash outlay will be much higher than a stock exhaust system, but your car’s resale value could get a boost and you won’t ever have to pay for another exhaust system again. More Horsepower -- Did you know that your stock exhaust system is not all that efficient? Sure, it does the job by keeping pollutants to a minimum but it also works against your engine by restricting power. Top quality performance exhaust systems, including those made by Borla, free up energy, thereby helping your engine to squeeze out more power. Improved Fuel Economy -- A side benefit of a more efficiently working engine is a bump up in fuel economy. Since your engine works smarter, it doesn’t need to burn as much fuel. The resultant spike in fuel economy is an attribute few take into consideration. A Cool Sound -- Performance exhaust systems are designed to emit a cool sounding note to let you and everyone else know that your vehicle has been transformed into a Formula 1 racer. Okay, we can pretend…however, the sound that a performance exhaust system makes is pleasing to all. So, there you have it. I shared with you a brief overview of a performance exhaust system and the many benefits of owning one. If you install one yourself you can save money; order online through an established and respected wholesaler and you can save even more cash.

The Effects of the Banning Online Gambling

Everyone talks about the negative impact of online gambling, but they are not talking about the negative impact of banning online gambling. A reason for banning online casinos was to make sure that underage children were not using thee parents credit cards to gamble online, but besides the fact that most online casinos did everything possible to ensure to verify the age of the account holder before allowing any gambling to occur, but by banning it you are only stopping the law abiding casinos from taking bets and not the less reputable online casinos. They will use third party account like PayPal ore Click2pay which provide a loophole in the new law. By banning an activity especially such a popular activity as online gambling all that can be expected to happen is for people to find ways around the law, such as the Speakeasies of the 1920’s. A Speakeasy was a nightclub that served Alcohol during prohibition and was usually hidden in the back rooms of pet stores and innocent looking book stores. Every time a speakeasy was raided the next night another one was opened, and this is what will happen with these online casinos. If the government finds one operating in the USA and gets it shut down or manages to stop the money flowing to it then another will open. By regulating online gambling the government would know exactly who was running the casino to make sure they were running it honestly and within all the laws, and it would help make sure that the criminal element did not get rich and gain power a second time in the history of the USA because of a bad lawmaking decision. Another reason given for the ban of online gambling was to help protect against a rise in problem gamblers from have casino gamming in your home 24 hrs a day, but no proof has ever been found that shows that people who would normally not be inclined to go to a casino and gamble would decide to do it just because it was now in their homes. The facts actually show a steady rate of people with gambling problems and growing at the same rate it has been growing for over 25 years. Many experts are now saying that there are some positives to the online gambling ban, but those positives would be even better if the industry was properly legalized and not, just by putting a mostly unenforceable law in place. But this to be a pattern the government seems to always make, it is much like the war on drugs. Last time I checked thee was still a drug problem in this country even though drugs are illegal, yet in countries like Holland where the use of soft drugs like hash and grass are legal the number people with drug problems is much lower per capita then in the USA. This is because the money that is brought in the form of taxes from these sales goes to fund the public schools where they properly educate kids on the negative effects of these drugs, so most of the people who smoke are tourists and not the locals. Maybe one day the government will learn from its past mistakes and make things right.

Tractor Trailer Accidents

Each year, there are approximately 500,000 accidents in the United States involving large trucks/tractor- trailers, with 5,000 fatalities. In fact, 1 out of 8 traffic fatalities in America is due to a collision with a truck. Virtually all of these deaths and injuries are restricted to the passengers of the cars struck by tractor-trailers, while the truck drivers usually escaped unscathed. The fatal crash rate for trucks is 2.6 deaths per one hundred million miles traveled, a statistic more than 50 percent greater than the rate for other vehicles. As well, tractor trailers and trucks are more likey to be involved in multiple vehicle accidents, and eighty percent of all truck accidents include more than 1 vehicle. The Federal government requires truck operators to have a commercial drivers license and undergo limited drug and alcohol testing. However, due to the continuing number of accidents, the effectiveness of these safety measures is questionable. Many accidents are caused by truck driver fatigue. In a recent survey, 20 percent of truck drivers admitted falling asleep while driving within a month of the questionnaire. For financial reasons truck drivers often stay on the road beyond the limits of human endurance. In 2003, US Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) tightened regulations governing downtime for truck drivers in an effort to lower the accident rate. The compliance date was set to January 4, 2004. A complicated set of guidelines now governs how long drivers can stay on duty. The revised Hours of Service regulations permit truck drivers to drive eleven hours after ten consecutive hours off-duty. Truck drivers are not allowed to drive beyond the 14th hour after coming on-duty, following ten hours off-duty. Truck drivers may not to drive after being on-duty for sixty hours in a seven-consecutive-day period of time or even seventy hours in an eight-consecutive-day time period. This on-duty cycle can be restarted if a driver takes at least thirty-four consecutive hours off-duty. Short-haul truck drivers (those who routinely return to their place of dispatch after every shift and then are released from duty) may have an increased on-duty period of time of sixteen hours after a week of standard shifts. The 16-hour exception takes into consideration valid business needs without jeopardizing safety. FMCSA estimates that without the flexibility of additional 2 on-duty hours, the industry would have to hire at least 48,000 inexperienced new drivers, actually increasing the accident rate. The FMCSA estimates the new rule has the potential to prevent 75 fatalities and approximately 1,326 crashes annually. However, studies reveal that many truck drivers violated the old regulations on hours of service, and without vigorous enforcement compliance with the new regulations will likely be poor as well.

Orgs And Services For Vintage Buick And Chevrolet Enthusiasts

Buick and Chevrolet, two of the world's most famous automobile brands, have a huge following worldwide not only for their modern, sleek models but also for their vintage collectible models. As a matter of fact, there are clubs and organizations formed solely for passionate collectors of noteworthy authentic Chevrolet and Buick models with historical value. Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, with chapters in states like Portland and Washington, publishes its own magazine called Generator and Distributor with articles on how to care for vintage models, specifically automobiles manufactured in early 1900s up to the 1980s. VCCA members have the privilege to contribute personal stories and tips regarding Chevys. Another great thing about being a member of organizations such as VCCA is that one has the opportunity to keep in touch with other vintage car fanatics around the country as well. If a person is a self-proclaimed Buick and Chevrolet fanatic but he doesn't own even one model, he can still join VCCA because the organization doesn't limit itself to automobile owners. On the other hand, Buick vintage collectors can join Buick Club of America which constantly organizes car shows and tours. BCA members can gain access to their informative forums discussing the specifics of pre-war and post-war models as well as useful tips for preserving and polishing earlier models. Buick and Chevrolet models manufactured before the World War II, mostly made of nickel and brass, naturally require meticulous care to keep up with the modern times. In fact, BCA has a sub-organization to specifically deal with restoring and caring for pre-war Buicks. A member of pre-war Buick division posted a message in the discussion forum saying earlier models of Buick, which are much slower than modern models, should be improved in order to participate in BCA tours. Just how exactly can earlier Buick and Chevrolet models be upgraded? Well, car enthusiasts can turn to companies offering automobile restoration. For instance, 10th Street Auto Body Specialties boasts of doing an incredible job of re-working '34 Chevy, '35 Ford Woodie Hot Rod, '63 Nova SS Convertible and '56 Chevy Hot Rod Truck. One can visit their website for step-by-step guide on how they transform these old models. Demopolis Paint and Body Shop, on the other hand, entertain antique car restorations. Their finished products include 1966 Ford Mustang and 1988 Cavalier. Likewise, Ace Auto Restorations supply antique car collectors with high-quality car parts, from chrome plating to upholstery. With so many choices available, vintage Buick and Chevrolet enthusiasts should no longer have a hard time improving the interiors and exteriors of their antique automobiles.

Little-Known Way To Save Money On Your Car Oil!

Imagine if you could save anywhere from $10 to $20 dollars on your usually very expensive oil change doing something very simple. Interested? Here’s how: Every 3000 miles completely drain out and replace the oil in your vehicle… by yourself! Just by doing this, you can save anywhere from $10-$20 dollars on your oil change. Below are the steps you can take to drain your car oil: Note that when changing the oil on your car you need to prepare with some supplies. You will need the following: Jack, the correct size wrench or ratchet, oil filter, oil, short bucket, rag, funnel, and a big piece of cardboard. Start by warming up your vehicle. Drive around the block once or twice, which will heat up your engine a little bit. A vital part to changing oil. The oil must first be warmed up otherwise you will have trouble getting it out. Then, jack up your vehicle, being sure to follow all safety precautions. Make sure to find a strong point on the bottom of your vehicle before jacking it up. An axle is the best place. After making sure everything is secure you are ready to get down and start the dirty work. The first thing to do is to drain out all the old oil. Look under your vehicle and locate the oil drain, which is usually one of the only 'plugs' in view. Generally this plug will be located right around the middle of the engine. Then, place your big piece of card board under the vehicle, which will keep you off the ground and also serve to catch any oil that drips. Grab your short bucket or container and place it under the vehicle, just below the oil plug. Once the bucket is in place take your wrench or ratchet and unscrew the oil plug slowly, letting the oil drain. Give the oil time to drain into the bucket, waiting till it comes out in slow drops. Then, carefully unscrew the oil filter. As you remove the filter, a short stream of oil may come out. Be sure to catch this in the bucket while not burning yourself. After you have drained all the oil out of your engine you will need to replace the plug and add the new oil filter. Once you've finished that, be sure to clean up any messes that were made with your cleaning rag. When you’re done cleaning up, you can start putting in new oil! Find out how many liters of oil your vehicle takes and pour it in with the funnel through the spout labeled for oil on top of your engine, beneath the hood of your vehicle. Use the dipstick to check and make sure the oil level is high enough. Once the tank is full put all caps back on and close the hood. Be sure to properly dispose of all the old oil and the oil filter. And guess what? You’ve just saved $10-$20 by changing your car oil yourself… and it doesn’t seem too hard, right?

For instance if your income is 50,000$ USD, you shouldn’t spend more than 25,000$ on the car because the car will may become a finical problem to you. 2. Personal need: Ask yourself what is the purpose of the car. Decide whether you want a 4 door sedan or a 6 people van. Look into what class and what kind car you want. If the purpose of the car is just purposely transportation, then don’t look into luxurious cars such as Benz or BMW. Or whether the car is for family purpose or personal love of car then you can decide whether you want a SUV or Sports Car. 3. Difference Brand: Once you decide what type of car you want. Look at different brands that has similar cars. For instance, if you are looking into the Lexus IS, also look into the Nissan G35, BMW 3 series, Acura TL, Cadillac CTS. You get the point. The reason why is because the price range from the same class can range from 30,000 to 45,000 which is a lot of money. Therefore, you should go test drive and find out exactly which car you want. 4. For instance Benz will charge over 100$ just for an oil change while Toyota may charge 25$. 10. Warranty. This should be the last thing you look at when you buy a car. Look at what the warranty covers and compare with it other car companies

The Details of Detailing the Interior of Antique Cars and Trucks

Your antique car or truck is a treasure. A treasured possession of history, class, and performance of bygone days. While you can never go back in time, you want to do all you can to preserve the aura and the dignity of antique cars and trucks. Detailing or cleaning and preserving them as close to their original state as possible, is the owner's dream. Care should be taken in every step of the restoration process to ensure all original materials are treated only with products designed not to have a negative effect on the material's future quality and durability. One especially delicate area is the interior of your antique. Whether the seats are plastic, cloth, or leather, they must be treated with care to ensure pliability so as not to occur future damage. The cleaning products used must be chosen with care. Today's technology offers many excellent solutions to the dilemma of cleaning without incurring damage to these aged materials. Selecting products that clean and protect in one step saves you time and insures your interior has constant protection. Again, it is important to choose products that won't damage the interior's materials with repeated use. You may want to consider these types of cleaners for seats, dashboards, and rubber moldings found in the interior of your vehicle. Note that any form of abrasive cleaner, no matter how miniscule the abrasiveness, with repeated use, will begin to deteriorate the surface being cleaned. It is not unusual to have one specific stain in the interior of a classic car or truck that seems almost impossible to remove without damaging the area. Again, be cautious not to use abrasive cleaners. Remember the interior of your antique car or truck has weathered many years. The materials have become worn, and are fragile simply by time. A spot remover designed to remove the stain without harsh chemicals is most likely your best solution. Proceed slowly and repeat the process gently if necessary to completely remove the stain. One or more treatments may be necessary for extremely stubborn stains. Harsh scrubbing and rubbing will only damage the material. Let the cleaner do the work. Once you have completed the restoration process and your antique car or truck is in tip-top condition, you want to make sure you do everything you can to protect it and your investment in it. The restoration process most likely took time, effort, and money. Now you want to make sure your vehicle remains in good shape. At this point, it is very important to store the vehicle in a climate-controlled environment. Extreme heat, cold, and moisture should be avoided if possible. Whenever the vehicle is taken out for show, or a drive, you should make sure to properly clean it whenever you are done. All that really should be necessary concerning cleaning and protection will be light maintenance. A good wipe down with a chamois cloth will most likely do the trick. Chamois cloths are excellent to absorb moisture, clean dust and grime, and polish the surface. Your antique car or truck has survived many years. A true display of elegance. A few simple steps will keep it looking great for years to come.

Tips On How To Rent A Car

If you are planning to do any traveling, either business or personal, you’ll likely want to rent a car upon arrival at your destination. Most airports have car rental agencies onsite for your convenience. These tips on how to rent a car will help you get the best deal. The major international car rental agencies have offices throughout North America and often around the world. There is no such thing as the best company in this industry. It really does pay to shop around. Rates will depend on the type of vehicle, the time period, and things like agency specials. You can easily compare prices online and you can reserve your car online too. Almost all rental cars have automatic transmission, radio, and air conditioning. Even if you request a manual transmission, chances are it won’t be available upon arrival. If you are traveling with children that will require car restraint seats, make sure to request them when you book your car. If you are renting a car in the US, you usually do not need an international driver’s license. Your license from your home country should be adequate. That said, an international license can be helpful in proving to the agency that you have a valid license especially if they aren’t familiar with the licenses from your country. Rental companies have different rules about who they will rent to. Some will not rent to anyone under the age of 25 while others won’t rent to anyone over the age of 70. Other rent to drivers under 25 but charge a premium. Check with the agencies for restrictions before you book. The car rental business is extremely competitive so prices change frequently. Some companies offer regular advertised deals; others run random special promotions. If business is slow you are likely to be able to get a better rate than if you are trying to rent during peak seasons. No one agency has the monopoly on best prices. It just depends, so do your homework and don’t be afraid to try to barter a better price! Sometimes if you booked through a travel agent, you might get a better price on your rental car. Some packages even include the rental fees. Compare these offers to see which is best. The car rental insurance is where many agencies really soak you. Power And Other Factors In Purchasing A Small Engine

Golf course managers are responsible for replacing parts in their course mowers, golf carts, trucksters when they begin to or completely go out. With proper maintenance, these kinds of replacements happen fairly infrequently. The engine may seem like one of the most difficult parts to replace because of the many details and factors that make up a good engine. It does not have to be difficult however. When looking for a new or rebuilt small engine, there are several major factors to consider before making a purchase. Small engines vary depending on brand, size, and purpose of use but basic quality factors should be considered standard. Keep the following in mind as you look for a replacement small engine. Power and Durability When looking at various brands of small engines or refurbished engines, gauge and compare the power levels. You want to make sure that your replacement engine provides equal or better power than your existing engine. Have your current engine make and model with you and ask your salesperson or online retailer how it compares to the one you are looking to purchase. It should also be a durable piece of machinery. Ask someone knowledgeable about the life expectancy of various small engine models or rebuilt engines. Additionally make sure that it can withstand heavy use in various weather and terrain conditions. Environmental Impact It is good to understanding how environmentally friendly the new or rebuilt engine is. Brands like Kohler and Briggs & Stratton have a reputation for building small engines that are less harsh on the environment because they give off less pollutants into the air and ground. They also tend to be more fuel efficient. Get a Warranty Always look for a good warranty on any small engine. While new engines nearly always come with a 1-2 year warranty, rebuilt engines do not. Always ask before purchasing to see what sort of warranty you can be guaranteed. A warranty will help in the event that your rebuilt engine has an existing problem when it arrives or it ends up being the wrong model or fit for your needs. Ask Questions Buying a new or replacement small engine is an infrequent experience. Don’t feel that you need to know everything about them in order to make a good decision. If you are unsure about what to buy, look first at brands that you know have a good reputation for creating robust, sturdy equipment that you can trust. Ask people you know what engine is in their carts, mower or other small engine equipped vehicle. Most will tell you of a small handful of well-known, respected brand names that you can then take to your retailer or online sales person to see about matching up a brand with the engine or rebuild kit you need. When purchasing new small engines or when buying rebuilt small engines, take the time to assess some of these key factors before making a purchasing decision. This way you will increase your chances of getting the best, most reliable piece of machinery possible. ~Ben Anton, 2008

The Best Ways To Test Out A Luxury Car

Luxury cars offer drivers the smoothest, most comfortable rides and have some of the most advanced engineering of any vehicles on the road. Many drivers and passengers alike wish that they could experience these beautiful driving machines, but only a select few people can count themselves lucky enough to own these exquisite cars that cost quite a pretty penny. If you are contemplating the purchase of a luxury car, you will want to be certain that your money is well spent. Although there are plenty of consumer guides to luxury cars that can give you important information about things like safety statistics and gas mileage for various models of cars, there are a few things that no guide can tell you. Some of those things include which luxury car’s design is most suited to your driving style; which car’s controls will be the most intuitive for you to use; and which car will be the most satisfying for you to drive. This means that you will want to spend some time behind the wheel of your luxury car of choice before you sign on the dotted line. There are two ways to try out a luxury car before you buy. One is to take a test drive, and the other is to take out a short term rental on the car you are considering purchasing. Each of these choices has its own advantages and disadvantages. A test drive is free, which makes it more attractive to many drivers. A rental can cost quite a bit of money, even if you only rent the luxury car in question for a week or a few days. However, a test drive is rarely more than half an hour long, which can severely limit the kind of experience you can have in the car you are considering the purchase of. A rental offers a longer time frame that will allow you to really get to know the ins and outs of your potential car, allowing you to make a truly informed decision. With a rental, you will be able to travel the streets you normally traverse through the course of your day. This will give you a realistic picture of what it would be like to navigate and park with the luxury car you are contemplating. Although in this way a rental is highly preferable to a test drive, a rental isn’t always a practical or possible choice. Often, consumers who are comparing different luxury cars are interested in the hottest, newest cars on the market. These kinds of vehicles are often in great demand, which means that they are not likely to make it onto the lot at your local rental outlet. In these cases, try to get your dealer to allow you a longer test drive than the average customer. Occasionally, a salesperson will be willing to let you try a luxury car for up to twenty four hours. So even if a rental isn’t an option, you may still be able to give the car a thorough spin around your neighborhood.
