A Walk Through the Volvo V40

y: From the Ford Motor Company’s Volvo division, the Volvo V40 is a sedan that has been making heads turn. It has been crafted and manufactured since 1999 up until the present. When it was introduced, it actually filled in the spot and niche that the Volvo 450 had left. It is a compact car, holds four doors, and is a sedan. It has been said that its competition in the market include the Acura TSX, the Audi A3, the BMW 2-series, and the Infiniti G20. By looking at the history of the Volvo V40, one could say that indeed there have been two different models, or generations, under the same name. The first generation was launched in 1995, while the other one was just launched recently, in the year 2004. If you are interested in acquiring a Volvo V40 as your own and you do have $25,700, you most possibly can own one. Aside from providing safety, the vehicle also provides a good performance, delivery, as well as functionality. It offers a twin scroll turbo charger with intercooler, and also an adaptive five speed microprocessor controlled automatic transmission. All these are made standard. The rear seats of the vehicle are split 70/30. They can even fold flat on the floor so as to provide extra space and extra storage for cargo. That way, the Volvo V40 gives its owners and its users the chance to stack in cargo in the 68.1 cubic feet of cargo space that it holds. The power of this vehicle comes from a dynamic turbocharged engine that holds four cylinders. This power machine could produce some 170 units of horsepower at 5500 rpm. A Look At Your Car’s Dashboard

Facia. This is what people in British English called your car’s dashboard. Your car’s dashboard is actually that panel that you can find under your windscreen. If you are not so sure about what it is, then you would find your dashboard as that part of your vehicle where there are indicators and dials in it like the tachometer, speedometer, odometer, as well as the fuel gauge. Since all the indicators and dials are found in your dashboard, it is important that you are familiar with it. You see, these indicators and dials tell you exactly about the measurements or other problems that your car might be experiencing. Just keep in mind that these indicators and dials tell you how fast you are going or if there might be engine trouble or battery trouble or any other aspect of your driving and your car’s status. Now, if any of the lights on your dashboard are not working, it is important that you do check and look into it. You see, in cases when there might be a problem with your car, you would not be notified and alerted about it. This could mean you getting into trouble, getting stranded, or even getting your pocket emptied up until your very last cent. To check, you should first look at your dashboard before you even put in your key into the ignition. Then, turn your key to the on position and not the start position. While you do this, do not take your eyes off the dashboard lights. You would know that they are working well because these should light up for around five seconds. Now, if you notice that any one of the lights on your dashboard is not working, then go have a mechanic or professional take a look at it. You can shop for discount Volvo S40 parts, Volvo XC90 parts and accessories from Volvo Parts and Used Volvo Parts. They have in stock thousands of Volvo parts for all enthusiasts and Volvo owners.

Driving On Wet Roads

Summer may be coming soon however there is still a chance of having rain. In fact, rain could fall anytime without your knowing. And sometimes, light rain could turn into a torrential downpour that could leave you cold and miserable while driving on some highway. Rain also is one of the causes of many road accidents. This is mostly because of the road and driving conditions. The roads become slippery. And oftentimes, the rain blurs the visibility of the driver. After a long dry season and the rain starts to fall, be very careful if you are caught on the road. Engine oil and grease has built up on the road during the dry season. Now when these are mixed with the water from rain, it can make the road extremely slick and slippery. When it is starting to rain and you have to travel somewhere, make sure that you start driving with a little time allowance. This is because you would not want to start speeding through the roads in the rain. Also, if you need to brake, make sure that you do it with less force. Sudden or strong braking could lead you to skid and you know what else happens after that. If the rain is pouring harder than you thought it would be and you observe that your visibility is lessened because of the downpour, do not hesitate to turn on your headlights. Added lights could actually help you see the road better and these also assist other motorists to know that you are on the road also. However, do not try to be brave and drive through a great downpour when you simply cannot see the road. Pull over and wait for the rain to subside. There is no harm in doing that. In fact, it could save not only your life but other lives as well.

Taking Off The Sticky Bumper Sticker

Remember that bumper sticker you wholeheartedly stuck on your car’s bumper? You know, that one which stated your message blatantly out to the public. You were so emotional about that topic that you wanted the whole world to know what was screaming in your mind. The bumper sticker that you used surely told it all and it did all the work for you. Bumper stickers are stickers that hold a message. It can be attached to the bumper of your car however some people would even attach it on the windows or even on the windshield itself. Oftentimes, these bumper stickers are made of vinyl. When new, these bumper stickers could shout out to the world their message. But through time and through various weather conditions, the sticker’s message could get faded until it is just another black piece of vinyl stuck to your car. One way of removing such stickers is to use penetrating oil. However, there are more easy ways of removing them without harming your bumper or whatever part of your vehicle it is stuck on. Unless you would to replace the auto parts with the bumper sticker with genuine Volvo 960 parts, you can simply spray the sticker with lubricant. Oil could also do. Apply the lubricant and let it soak through for a couple of minutes. Then try to peel it off. If this trick does not work, you can try using a blow dryer. This would lessen the hold of the adhesive of the sticker. From a corner of the sticker, continue to apply heat from the blow dryer and start peeling that corner off. You can use a rubber or plastic spatula or knife. Do not use metal or you can find scratches on the area. Doing this would result to a sticker-free bumper or window or windshield. Wipe away any remains of the sticker with a rag.

Volvo S60 Made Even Sportier According to Automaker

The Volvo brand has come up with a mission: to further refine and sharpen the Volvo S60. Despite the fact that this vehicle is already on the sporty mode, it seems like the car brand is still not satisfied and would like to give this vehicle further enhancements. To back this up, Gerry Keaney, the senior vice president of Volvo’s marketing, sales, and customer service, explains, “We’re making the S60 even sportier in every respect. We’ve both spiced up the design and fine-tuned the chassis to create a car with even greater driving appeal.” The restyled Volvo S60 will come with a front spoiler that has been crafted and made to make the vehicle look more pronounced. It would also be a protruding contour at the vehicle’s bottom. There would also be new sills and a new rear lower bumper. Each of these has been color coordinated with the car body itself. The S60’s boot lid could also be specified with a sporty new wing spoiler. There would also be a new grille which is quite larger and more pronounced compared to the previous one. The Volvo seal and badge would also be more pronounced and has been designed to be classic yet rejuvenated. The S60’s exterior color choices have been upgraded. Now, three new colors have been added which include Electric Silver, Orinoco Blue, and Maple Red. The same number has been added to its new aluminum wheels. The exterior is not the only thing that has been updated. The interior would also be made sportier with its metal décor trims as well as its twin-tone leather upholstery. The cabin would be receiving new Grid Aluminum metal décor panels which are optional. Although, these panels are actually designed so as to create a more three-dimensional impression and tactile feeling.

Remove Cigarette Smoke Out

Cigarette smoke is one of those odors that are very hard to remove from your car. This smell is very much likely to stick to your car’s interior and stay there for a long period of time. You might not be a smoker yourself, however, if you do drive with a smoker or if you share your car with a smoker, the odor might be irritating for you. You may have tried air fresheners and airing your car out. However, these do not work effectively. The very best thing to do is clean out your car. The odor is easily overpowered to take flight once you get to clean your car. The fact is that cigarette smoke is much more likely to stick and live in your car’s interior. So cleaning then out would also drive away the odor. First off, try shampooing your car’s interior. Do not forget to do the same to your carpets, upholstery, seats, and floor mats. You can use an odor eliminating shampoo to take off the smell of cigarette smoke. If you do not know where to purchase such a product, you can try locating one through the Internet. Or you can visit your local hardware or home improvement store. You can find one of these from these sources. Do not leave out all the surfaces of your car’s cabin. Use the same shampoo to clean these parts. To do so, you would need a damp sponge. Just place a small amount of the shampoo on the sponge then work it on the surface and then wipe down. Also clean your windows. This time, you can use a glass cleaner. By doing such, in no time at all, you would be saying goodbye to that cigarette smoke odor that has been bothering you for a long time. Just make sure that you do not allow anybody else to smoke while inside your vehicle.

Curtains Down For The Volvo C30

“The new Volvo C30 is a cool car. A car that aims for a group of young singles, or couples, with an intense urban lifestyle.” These were the words given out by Fredrik Arp. Arp is actually the president and the chief executive officer of Volvo Cars. And he is talking about the sporty Volvo C30. The Volvo C30 looks sporty and performs like a sports vehicle. Though it only holds two doors, it has got four seats in its interior. Although the production of this vehicle would be starting by the end of this year, the Volvo C30 would be actually sent out to the motoring public come the following year, 2007. Arp further expresses, “These people (those who live an intense urban lifestyle) prioritize excitement in design and driving characteristics, and this car is designed to suit their taste and lifestyle.” Just like how Volvo V70 dashboard parts perfect fit all V70s, the Volvo C30 would be the car for those who live the urban life to the fullest. If you are interested to meet the Volvo C30 firsthand, you can rush to the Paris Motor Show which would be happening this December. After all, everybody would not be able to see just what kind of power and what kind of design this car has. And being able to see it upfront and in the flesh would be something worth the long wait. According to Volvo, they are targeting a production of 65,000 units of the Volvo C30 in a year. They are also expecting a huge amount of buyers of this vehicle to hail from the continent of Europe. Those who have already set sight on the Volvo C30 concept vehicle which was shown off at the Detroit Motor Show early this year would find not a lot of changes to the production version of the Volvo C30.

Discount Auto Parts: 4 Ways to Save!

If you are in the market to purchase replacement or performance automobile parts, you have several options before you in order to get what you want. Thanks to the internet, you can research your options and narrow down what you need right online. In fact, in many cases, you can order what you need right from the ease of your desktop. Still, some sources are better than others and you really need to know what you are buying before purchasing parts from anyone.

The following are four options for finding parts:

Salvage Yards. Also known as junk yards, salvage yards provide cheap parts for just about any type of vehicle. You just need to know if the particular make/model you own is sitting somewhere on site. The larger junkyards inventory their cars and with that information you can find exactly where the vehicle is located. Prices are usually very reasonably, but you must remember that the part you are purchasing is used and quality levels can vary from junker to junker. Salvage yards are a particularly good place to shop if you need a door panel, fender, or other body component.

Retail Stores. The large chain stores typically have something for everyone. Sale prices can be good, but selection may be limited to a few key brands. Replacement parts for less common vehicles can be harder to find. Some parts are subject to big mark ups, particularly with retailers who rely upon intermediary suppliers for their entire inventory.

Car Dealers. New car dealers are an excellent place to find replacement parts. They should be if they feature your particular make/model vehicle. The larger dealers generally have well stocked parts departments right on site. The drawback is often their prices typically reflect big mark ups. You’ll pay through the nose if you have a dealer install anything for you too.

Wholesalers. Most reputable wholesalers are now marketing their inventory right online. The advantage to you is a wider product selection, lower prices, ease of ordering, and quick service. Shop only with those wholesalers who have a toll free number listed where you can contact a live person, if needed. Go with those wholesalers offering free shipping, typically available on orders exceeding $50. You can save big with a well known wholesaler, such as the Auto Parts Warehouse, as they cut out the middle man to offer you the lowest prices across the board.

As with any transaction, check your parts carefully as some retailers unknowingly stock counterfeit parts. Make certain that you can return whatever you purchase if a problem comes up. Use a credit card to back up with your purchase with the credit card issuer’s guarantee.

Catalytic Converter Fires: A Real Danger!

Driving down the street with the setting sun at his back, Bob Cummins navigated around parked cars and fire hydrants to find the right place to park. It just wasn’t something that was easy to do – finding a vacant spot – on his narrow, winding suburban street. Wedged between two business districts, Bob’s block was frequently filled with cars from outside the area, taking away from the already limited on street parking. While he knew he could simply pull into his own driveway and park, he also knew that he’d have to move vehicles around later when his wife, Susan, returned home with the kids.

Glancing out of his right mirror he noticed it and slammed on his breaks. A car pulled out of a spot down the street behind him and its driver pulled into a nearby driveway and exited the car. Bob slowly backed up halfway down the block and slipped his Volvo XC90 into the empty spot. A little tight, he thought, as he left just enough room between the driveway in front of him and the car behind him for his SUV. Within moments Bob left the comfort of his Volvo and stepped inside the foyer of his center hall colonial.

Less than ten minutes later the sounds of sirens filled the neighborhood. At first, Bob did not give it much thought, but as the sirens drew closer he decided to step outside to investigate. To his utter horror, a car just two houses down from his home was engulfed in flames. Within moments his worst fears were confirmed: his new Volvo XC90 was on fire! Minutes later the fire was extinguished but Bob's SUV was destroyed.

An important part of your vehicle’s emission system is the catalytic converter. It is tasked with reducing harmful emissions that pollute the atmosphere and it has been a part of nearly every passenger vehicle built since the mid 1970s. Unfortunately, the catalytic converter can also run very hot and, at the same time, spark ignition of anything that it comes into contact with. In Bob’s case, it was his 2005 Volvo that was parked directly over a small leaf pile that started the fire that destroyed his XC90.

When parking your vehicle, take care to make sure that no debris is on the ground directly underneath your car. Even a small pile of dried out leaves can be just enough fodder for a fire. In the case of a high profile vehicle, such as the XC90, the clearance between the bottom of your vehicle and the ground is higher, meaning you many not notice anything underneath when backing into an empty parking space.

Hundreds of vehicle fires every year are attributed to motorists who park their cars over leaves; unfortunately this practice almost always results in the total loss of the vehicle due to excessive fire damage.

Play it safe when parking your car, truck, van, or SUV by examining the area underneath it to make sure that is completely free of all debris.

3 Exceptional European Automakers

When you think of exceptional cars that are built in Europe, does your mind run strictly to cars made by Rolls Royce, BMW, or Mercedes? Perhaps Jaguar and Lamborghini come to mind as well. Each of these makes deserve all the accolades given to them. Still, there are three makes that are, for various reasons, exceptional. Let’s take a look at Volvo, Volkswagen, and Audi, the three makes featured in this article.

For a country of just nine million to produce one automaker would be amazing enough. To lay claim to two automakers is simply phenomenal. Both Volvo and Saab are from this particular country which is Sweden. Now a part of Ford Motor Company, Volvo has greatly influenced the automobile industry over the years. Safety standards that had been universally low elsewhere are much more appreciated with Volvo. Front end crumple zones, reinforced roofs and specially designed interiors have all had their origin with Volvo. Out of these high safety standards have come a line of cars that are, indeed, some of the best built and safest cars on the road. Fortunately, through Volvo’s leadership, many automakers around the world have incorporated Volvo’s high safety standard. This is what makes Volvo exceptional in my eyes.

The company that brought to the world the first people’s car, the Beetle, is also exceptional. First designed in Germany during the 1930s, the Beetle survived World War II and was one of the most mass produced and loved cars in the world. From the 1950s forward the Beetle managed to make motorized transportation available to people who otherwise could not afford a car. From college students in the US to migrant workers in Mexico and from the gritty cities of Holland to the Irish farmlands, the Beetle made owning a car affordable the majority of the masses. Even after importation to the US ceased during the 1970s, the Beetle was produced for another generation and sold in Mexico.

Without drawing out the point too far, the term that best describes Audi’s quattro technology is “superior handling.” Perhaps that is an understatement but when Audi introduced quattro all wheel drive the company threw the gauntlet down and told the rest of the auto making world that quattro was the standard by which all luxury sedans would be judged. Audi's quattro technology has given the company such a huge advantage over competitors that over the years it has been banned from certain types of racing. Indeed, Audi’s quattro technology provides continuous traction long past when other road handling schematics have reached their threshold.

So, there you have it. Three truly exceptional automobiles from the European continent, exceptional in ways, perhaps, that should be labeled as extraordinary.
