The Quick Guide To Buying A Vehicle

Buying a car will most likely be one of the largest purchases you make in your life and so its importance cannot be understated. With such a huge array of vehicles to choose from, throughout the various price ranges, research will be the key to a successful purchase. When you are thinking about buying a car there is one important factor to appreciate – in financial terms nearly all vehicles are liabilities. That is they LOSE money and are an added burden to your finances – not only the initial purchase but also the insurance, gas costs, repairs and then the depreciation when you come to sell it. That said, they are also fast becoming an essential possession in the modern world – only major cities have comprehensive public transport systems, so to get around at your convenience there is only one option – buy a car. The first item to consider is the method of payment for the vehicle – buy to own or lease over a period of time. Either way you will need to calculate your budget to see what you can afford not only up front or monthly payments but also the following: 1. How reliable a make of car it is – are the parts expensive? 2. How long is the warranty period and how comprehensive is it? 3. How much does the insurance cost? 4. What are the service intervals and how much do they cost? 5. The economy of the vehicle compared with the type and distance of driving you normally do. 6. Style of vehicle – do you need a truck or SUV for local/inner city driving? How many passengers do you carry? 7. How long will you want to keep it? (Marriage, kids or relocation?) Don’t sign up for expensive 5 year financing if you only want to keep it for 12 months. 8. What is the MRP of the vehicle – always look for discount. 9. What is the resale value of the vehicle – is the depreciation high? Methods of Purchasing 1. Buy new – This is fast becoming a more affordable method of buying a car and you can either pay cash up front (if you’re lucky), arrange your own financing or take out the financing from the car dealer (if buying from a dealer). Most domestic manufacturers will offer either large discounts for cash payment or 0% financing over a period of up to 5 years. The imported vehicles (far eastern/European) are very popular and most don’t need to offer such large incentives for sales as the reliability and economy of their products are in high demand. There seems to be 2 major factors when choosing a new vehicle – price over quality. A Japanese / European imports have the quality but you will pay handsomely for it – a North American vehicle (GM, Ford, Chrysler/Dodge) definitely have the price and incentives so that will come down to personal choice. 2. Buy used – The most likely choice of many of us either through a private sale or a used car dealer. Many private transactions are completed due to reasonable pricing (agreed between the seller and purchaser) that is normally based upon the condition of the vehicle (any crashes or service history), the age, and fair market value. The main drawback is that these sales are completed “sold as seen” and there is very often little or no comeback should the vehicle subsequently fail shortly after the transfer of ownership. It is a necessity to have the vehicle history checked if you are committing to a private transaction. If the vehicle is stolen or has finance owing on it there is a very strong chance of it being repossessed should it be uncovered. These checks also show the last known mileage (prevents clock tampering) and also any reported collision damage (written off and then rebuilt) and for a small fee can save an awful lot of heartache and financial difficulties. If you buy from a reputable dealer you will pay more for the vehicle but will normally be able to trade in any old vehicle. Again you will not be paid too much for the trade in but not having to worry about the sale of the old vehicle may well offset that. You should also have a decent warranty with the vehicle you buy which may be the balance of the manufacturers warranty or up to 3 months from the dealer. If it is a dealer warranty, make sure you fully understand what is and more importantly isn’t covered – the small print must be read and understood. Depending upon the size of the dealership, you may be able to purchase an extended warranty, again check what is covered and for how long – you really don’t need any surprises when the problems arise. 3. Auctions are another method of purchasing which can save you a lot of cash if you are brave enough. You will have the chance to look over the vehicles prior to the auction and the auction company will usually run some background checks to avoid selling stolen cars. If you know what you are doing this can really be a cost effective way of buying a car but also probably the one with the highest risk. 4. Lease – This entails a down payment (normally) followed by a monthly payment which will be less than the financing of a new vehicle payment. This method isn’t everyone’s idea of monetary sense as you make payments but will never have any equity at the end of the lease term. The major benefits are that you will be able to have a new car every few years (usually before the warranty period expires) and simply give the vehicle back in exchange for the next new one. You will most likely have a pre agreed limit on mileage that will cost you extra should you surpass it and you will be liable for the servicing costs. Whether you are buying a car - new or used - never pay the “price” on show – these are heavily inflated and you should be able to negotiate a substantial discount. If not – go somewhere else – you are the customer that they should be bending over backwards to please. Do not be afraid to walk out on a dealership if you are unhappy with what’s on offer and definitely visit several different dealerships and play them off against each other to gain a favorable price. Tips On Choosing Discount Tires

There is a saying by a famous tire manufacturer Michelin: "So much is riding on your tires." This is true no matter if you're driving a sport coupe or an electric scooter. Cheap tires can damage a great car, and great tires can do wonders for a worn out vehicle. Luckily, today, thanks to technological advances, you can buy a great set of discount tires and still be quite happy about them. If you understand that you have to buy new tires, you have a few options. The easiest way is to buy the exact size and brand of tires that your vehicle had when you picked it at the dealership. However, you may choose to upgrade your tires depending on what driving conditions you currently have or foresee. There are many reasons to change the tires for a different model. While some people look for a new design they may simply change the wheel and use the same tires as before. Some people prefer to wait till they need new tires and then they upgrade for a larger diameter of the wheel and new tires at once. When choosing your new discount tires you should honestly evaluate your driving needs and habits. If you really want to enjoy your ride, you need to find a reliable discount tire store which will not push you towards the most expensive make, but rather help you pick the brand that does justice to your car while remaining within your budget. The type of the tire also depends on the driving conditions you normally drive in. Here are some factors you should consider when choosing your discount tire set: Tread life of the tires will determine how long a set of tires would last. Life expectancy of the tires is estimated by the manufacturer under governmental guidelines after a field testing. The higher the tread life grade, the longer the tire will last. Wet weather tires are essential if you live in a climate where it rains often. Four-season tires are the best option for wet climates. If it snows often, then you should also have a set of winter tires that you will switch for during the colder season. Speed rating is an often underestimated factor in choosing the right set of discount tires. In the USA the speed limit hardly ever climbs over 75mph. In Europe the lovers of speedy rides can really get loose, but in North America you can hardly ever need a tire capable to ride over 100mph – even though you will not likely need to drive this fast. Speed ratings show the safe top speed of a tire and are marked with letters, with Q as lowest and V as highest. You can always go for the ultra-performing tire for speedy sports cars, but this quality is something that you will almost never use. High- or low-profile? Low-profile tires look really stylish but these tires cannot always bear the hardships of the real road with all the bumps and cracks. Plus, with low-profile tires the wheel is getting damaged faster. Higher-profile tires often mean a safer and smoother ride. That's the basics on tires, which you need to know before you start looking for a discount tire store, either online or offline. Even if you choose to go discount, it’s really hard to buy a truly awful set of tires. Usually all tires on the market today can be touted as bad or good depending on how you use them and how you drive your car. Be honest with your expectations and choose the best discount set of tires you can afford.

Wide Open Spaces – How To Share The Roads Peacefully With Trucks

On your local news program, you may hear stories about an “out of control” truck wiping out a car load of people or destroying property. The media sensationalizes the facts, often putting most of the blame with the truckers. However, many times that is not the case. For the most part, truckers are responsible drivers who are diligent about road safety. Not only are they making sure they adhere to the rules of the road, but they also have to keep an eye on the nincompoop drivers of passenger vehicles who think they are the exception to the rules. There are a few common problems that truckers come across with motorists. These problems are often also the ones most sited on insurance claims. Are you guilty of any of these practices?: 1. Brake this habit – Everyone at one point or another gets stuck behind a large truck. So the most logical next step is to change lanes to pass the truck. No problems with that … the problem lies in a vehicle cutting back into the truck’s lane right in front of them, then braking for a turn or just slowing down, period. What most motorists don’t take into account is that truckers need a lot of space in order to slow down, at least two to three times the amount of passenger vehicles. 2. Peek-a-boo! – Now you see them, now you don’t. This peek-a-boo game is very troublesome to truckers. Large trucks have several blind spots which make it hard for the drivers to see other motorists who like to hang out there. The best thing that you can do is either pass the truck or stay a comfortable distance behind them. When in doubt, check for the trucker’s side view mirrors. If you can see them, then chances are that they might be able to see you too. 3. Back up and try again – In this day and age of technology, people are more accustomed to instant results and hate waiting for anything. Unfortunately, when big trucks have to back into a space, it may take a few tries to succeed. Motorists should appreciate the fact that these trucks are bigger than they are and let the truckers do their job. Patience can be a virtue! 4. Teach a lesson – Some drivers of passenger vehicles like to try and “teach” truckers a lesson. Sometimes, drivers think that the big trucks are either going too fast or slow. So they’ll speed up to pass the trucker, then get back in the trucker’s lane and slow down! Many parents tell their kids, “Worry about yourself,” and it would be smart for other motorists to heed that advice. Leave it to the troopers and policemen to enforce the laws of the road. Common sense is what all these problems boil down to. Each person driving on the road is in charge of themselves. By exercising a little of that common sense, many accidents involving big trucks and passenger vehicles could be avoided. That old adage, “It is better to be safe than sorry,” certainly applies!

What Are Hybrid Cars?

Hybrid plants like corn or rice are familiar to many but hybrid cars? Are these space-age cars that do not need fuel to run or even fly in the sky? To the uninitiated, hybrid cars may seem like an alien form or specie that requires a lot of explaining. To car and environment aficionados, hybrid cars are either bane or boon especially with the increasing fuel prices worldwide. Hybrid cars may just be the answer of modern scientists to the rising fuel cost and the deteriorating quality of the environment. Contrary to your belief, hybrid cars are no longer new to the society as the auto industry has come up with various models of hybrid cars. Car manufacturers who have been left behind in the race for the perfect hybrid car have announced their intention to compete in the market. Hybrid vehicles are those that possess the dual qualities of being able to run on more than two sources of power like gasoline or battery. The first hybrid vehicles came in the form of hybrid bikes which has fuel features but can be operated using the pedal skills of the rider. Hybrid cars are more common in Europe particularly in Norway and France. Hybrid buses that are operated by overhead and by diesel when they travel in other areas without the overhead wires are also being used in Seattle. There are also hybrid submarines which run on nuclear, diesel or electric energy. The most common hybrid vehicle is that powered by both gasoline and electricity. A hybrid car attempts to allow the owner to save on fuel while being environment friendly. However, can hybrid cars be efficient enough to provide long distance travel without being refueled or recharged? Most gasoline-powered vehicles answer this requirement although they cause more damage to the environment because of the emissions. On the other hand, electric vehicles are more environment-friendly but can only go on a maximum of 161 kilometers until it is recharged and the recharging time is very slow. The hybrid car combines the advantages of both the gasoline-powered and the electric-powered car. A hybrid car possesses a gasoline engine much like the ordinary gasoline powered car but the engine is much smaller, more environment-friendly due to lesser emissions and more efficient. It also possesses a very high tech electric motor which allows dual use of batteries and energy. The hybrid car may just be in its infancy but the human mind can very well make sure that the hybrid cars will be the cars of the future.

Hiring A Limousine

You can ride in just about any type of stretch limo for a lot less than you'd expect-- if you know how to drive a hard bargain. Steps: 1. Assess your finances. A standard limousine (four to six passengers) will set you back about $40 to $80 per hour; a stretch limo (six to eight passengers) runs slightly more--about $60 to $100 per hour. Both have an hourly minimum of four to five hours (although this is usually negotiable). For specialty limos such as a Mercedes, a Hummer or a superstretch (up to 22 passengers), costs can top out at $3,000 for the night. 2. Research, research, research. Be sure the limo operator is licensed and insured. Decide what type of limo you want (standard, stretch, superstretch or specialty) and for how long, based on the event and the number of people in your party. What are you looking for, whether it's a bar, stereo, TV and DVD player, video-gaming system, intercom, sunroof, Jacuzzi, or all of that and a bag of chips. Prices may or may not be posted online. You'll need to do some phone work to get the best deal. 3. Find out the year and make of the limo you'll be hiring, its condition, and the complimentary amenities before you give a deposit. Be sure the deposit is refundable if the limo doesn't meet with your satisfaction. Many limo companies will advertise one type of car and show up at your door with something entirely different. Most list photos of their limos on their Web sites. If quality is a top priority, plan a visit to the limo company and reserve the exact limo that suits your needs. 4. Hire a quality driver. This is crucial--a bad driver can ruin your evening. Make sure the drivers are experienced, professional and know the area. Provide an itinerary to the company beforehand so the driver knows where he or she is going and what to expect. When the driver shows up, be sure to communicate any special needs you have. 5. Ask whose responsibility it is to stock the limo with any necessary party favors ahead of time. Some companies will provide everything you need; others expect you to bring your own. Sometimes you can negotiate a lower rate if you offer to stock the bar yourself. 6. Find out if gratuities are included in the rate; regardless, you'll be expected to tip your driver, so try to keep it separate. Overall Tips: Make sure your limo is ample enough to fit everyone comfortably. If you have six passengers, get a car that accommodates eight. If you want premium liquor, negotiate that up front, or plan to bring your own. Ask if smoking (or other activities) is allowed. Even if it's not, most drivers will look the other way if the price is right. If it's truly a special occasion, don't be cheap. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for: Most higher-end limo companies have superior drivers, vehicles and accoutrements. Try to clear everything with your driver in advance. He or she is your captain for the evening and can be your best friend or worst nightmare. Overall Warnings: Make sure the limo company and their drivers are properly licensed and insured when making your reservation. This will ensure you are dealing with a reputable company.
